Research Assistant Protein Production

IOB is a new research institute combining basic and clinical research. Its mission is to drive innovations in understanding vision and its related diseases and to develop new therapies for vision loss. **Your position**
- Develop protein expression in (transient) mammalian and microbial systems to produce antigens for binder selection campaigns
- Establish small scale protein production for functional binder screening and characterization
- Design and cloning of expression constructs
- Interact with researchers to support therapeutic projects and development of the protein engineering platform
- Assist in binder discovery campaigns and characterization of novel protein binders
- Assist with lab management duties
**Your profile**
- Degree (apprenticeship, BSc/MSc or PhD) in Biology, Biochemistry or similar discipline
- Practical experience with recombinant protein expression in different hosts (i.e. bacterial and mammalian)
- Hands-on knowledge with state-of-the-art protein purification technologies like affinity, size exclusion or ion exchange chromatography
- Knowledge of molecular cloning methods
- Basic protein characterization methods (e.g. SDS-PAGE, ELISA, western blots)
**Additional skills (advantageous but not required)**:
- Protein-protein interaction analysis, e.g. by ELISA, surface plasmon resonance, biolayer interferometry
- In-vitro display methods, e.g. phage, yeast or ribosome display
- Structural biology or modeling of protein structures
This position is hands-on and demands both an independent working style and an ability to interact comfortably with users of the protein engineering platform. Openness to innovative non-traditional solutions is important.
