**BACKGROUND**

Over the past 80 years, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has developed unparalleled expertise in responding to emergencies and helping uprooted communities to rebuild. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster.

**SCOPE OF WORK**

The Head of Office Switzerland plays a key role in providing leadership, governance, decision making and internal representation for IRC in Switzerland and the Geneva office within IRC globally.

This part-time responsibility will require approximately 20% of working time (1 day per week), which the post holder undertakes alongside their current position. One day per week office presence is essential.

The position sits on the Europe Senior Leadership Team and has a dotted line reporting to the Senior Vice President, Europe.

**MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**People and Culture**
- Build a supportive and collaborative culture in the Geneva office - where staff are often hosted and have line managers based in other geographic locations.
- Oversee delivery of HR initiatives and relevant HR policies, practices and procedures.
- Act as a point of escalation for staff matters, addressing issues as they come up and following up on concerns where needed.
- Work with Duty of Care colleagues to ensure the duty of care of staff and pastoral care as required.

**Operations and Finance**
- Manage and run the Geneva office, in close collaboration with Operations Coordinator - with a strong focus on problem-solving and planning.
- Line manages the Operations Coordinator, Switzerland together with the Head of Procurement and Facilities, Europe.
- Signatory for legal and financial documents promptly, including contracts with suppliers, employment contracts, online banking payments, etc.
- Ensure the IRC Geneva organizational set-up is fit for purpose and its structures integrated into IRC’s global set-up.
- Oversee IRC’s Switzerland budget, including preparing and managing the budget efficiently during the year.

**Legal and Governance**
- ** **Take on Power of Attorney and act as legal representative for IRC Switzerland as required.
- Ensure that IRC complies with all lawful requirements, statutes, regulations and ordinances of Switzerland in the carrying out of the functions of the IRC. Seek internal or external legal advice as required

**Internal representation**
- ** **Participate in strategic planning for Europe, including development/review of risk registers, budget and other such documents for IRC in Switzerland.
- Attend bi-monthly Europe Senior Leadership Team meetings to represent the IRC Geneva office and its staff at the Europe SLT level and share information from the Europe SLT with Geneva staff.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- ** **Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent people management skills, including the ability to bring together a multi-disciplinary office of staff with a collaborative leadership style.
- Fluency in oral and written English and working knowledge of French.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexible work attitude: the ability to work productively in a team environment & independently.
- A genuine commitment to the values and ethos of the IRC.
- Operations, Finance and HR experience is an asset.
- Experience working with senior management teams is an asset.
- Swiss residency.
