What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

The Resource Mobilization Division (REM) manages the institutional relationship between ICRC and its various donors. A new ICRC Resource Mobilization Strategy 2020 - 2030 has been validated in December 2020 and its related transformation program called “SIP” (Resource Mobilization Strategy’s Implementation Plan) has been approved in March 2021. It strives to guide fundraising efforts at the ICRC by establishing five strategic orientations that seek to address challenges identified today and prepare fundraising at the ICRC to be fit for purpose in the future.

Purpose of the position

This position is leading a workstream called “ICRC as a Fundraising Organization” which main objective is to adapt ICRC organization and culture to better support fundraising activities (at HQ and Field level). Today, the fact that different teams contribute to fundraising efforts is broadly accepted and there is wide recognition that this needs to continue and be strengthened. What is missing? A clear framework that provides clarity for each department to achieve collective fundraising outcomes at a local & regional/global level.

Relationships

Interact internally with the Resource Mobilization team and externally with Operations, Communication, International Law Policy and Humanitarian Diplomacy, Movement,colleagues being at HQ or in the Field.

Understands the roles of the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Represents the ICRC in a professional manner at all times.
Develops and maintains a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers.
Performs all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC.
May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary.
Main duties & responsibilities 1/2

Manage the workstream “ICRC as a Fundraising Organization” in project mode:
Ensure the overall delivery of the “ICRC as a Fundraising Organization” workstream: plan the activities/results / resources;
Define project success criteria / key performance indicators together with Portfolio manager / key partners;
Identify interdependencies within projects and work together with the other program/project managers;
Make sure objectives/speed/priorities are in line with the overall vision, and that sponsors are receiving the appropriate level of information to make the right decisions;
Ensure that Communication & Change management plans are in place to support the adoption of changes. Facilitate regular communication with multiple audiences.

**Strong focus on the development of a fundraising network**:
Design the concept of “Networked approach” with the partnering functions of REM - roles and responsibilities, coordination mechanisms, decision-making protocols, etc.;
Test new concepts together with our “Asia Prototype Team”;
Based on the lessons learned, define a plan of action to develop further the “Networked Approach” concept in other regions;
Work with HR on how to integrate Fundraising objectives into Performance objective setting.

**Enabling Brand**: support the development of a joint vision between Resource Mobilization and Communication;
**Fundraising skills development**: identify and build together with HR a global “Fundraising Skills” development plan for the organization;
