What we do

Purpose of the position

As a key member of the MMP_DIR team, the Strategic Adviser provides strategic support to the Director and the leadership team on substance related to the MMP Department’s accountabilities, for both internal and external purposes. In close contact with their peer in other Departments and regular interaction with the MMP Director, they facilitate cross-department alignment and collaboration. In daily interaction with the MMP Senior leadership team, they are the MMP_DIR pen-holder on a range of documents, including strategic narratives, internal policies, PfR documents, presentations, speeches and speaking points for internal and external audiences.

Main duties and responsibilities

**In this regards, the Strategic Advisor is in charge of**:
**Change management and communication (estimation 60 %)**:
**Within MMP (estimation 35 %)**:
Develops the agenda and content for internal meetings and other forms of engagement (e.g. senior management and leadership meetings, regular MMP all-staff meetings, townhalls, away-days and other forms of internal engagement).
Defines and executes MMP change and communication plans for change arriving to MMP or driven by MMP; animates and coordinates MMP change community (the change managers sitting in the divisions) and contributes to ICRC Change and Communication community of practice.
Creates and cultivates a common MMP voice from HQ towards the field.

**Within ICRC (estimation 10 %)**:
Creates and manages ICRC Stakeholder mapping and business impact assessment to deliver MMP strategy and priorities.
Creates and manages MMP engagement plan including key messages/speaking points for these key internal stakeholders.

**Outside ICRC (estimation 15 %)**:
Supports the MMP Director when engaging with key external stakeholders and opinion leaders; write speeches, speaking points, ect.
Supports the preparation of field visits and high-level representations involving MMP director, providing substance when required.

Main duties and responsibilities

**Strategy and foresight (estimation 20 %)**:
Animates within MMP a range of institutional reflections and contributes to the drafting of the documents for MMP (new strategy, PMFR, etc.).
Leads on the analysis of trends and developments covering the scope of MMP.

Project management and participation in ICRC working groups (estimation 20 %):
Responsible for the implementation of MMP transversal projects (project phases: design/build/implementation). For example MMP Identity (behaviors, ways of working)
Support implementation of ICRC projects within MMP (project phase implementation). For example Staff well-being, D&I, etc.
Scope & Impact

**Geographic remit**: MMP (HQ and field) and ICRC HQ
Is a member of working groups for inter-departmental initiatives/project

Relationships

**Internally**:
Reporting to the Operating manager, is in frequent contact with the Director (speaking points, speeches, etc.).
Interacts on a daily basis with MMP department’s leadership team and managers.
Works within a small network of peers, who facilitate cross-departmental collaboration and alignment.

**Externally**:
Occasionally interacts with a network of peers in other organizations and represent the ICRC vis-à-vis stakeholders such as academia, think-tanks, corporate partners when relevant.

Education and experience required

Master’s degree in government affairs, international relations, business, or public administration.
Minimum 10 years’ working experience.
Minimum 5 years of ICRC experience (ideally both field and HQ).
Professional certification in change management and project management is an asset.

Desired profiles and skills

Strongly motivated by humanitarian impact.
Team player with demonstrated ability to connect well with colleagues and bring people together.
Good knowledge of the international political and humanitarian environment.
Excellent command in written and spoken English, excellent command of French is an asset.
Microsoft office skills (especially Power Point and Excel).
Excellent analytical and strategic thinking.
Well-developed listening skills.
Organized and high attention to details.
Self-motivated, flexible, determined and able to work under pressure.
