To complete the team at the Oncological Institute of Southern Switzerland (IOSI) Bellinzona, we are looking for a/an

**Clinical Research Fellowship in Genitourinary (GU) Malignancies (100%)**:

- The Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland is one of the largest clinical research centres in Switzerland. Our three main areas of clinical research comprise new drug development, lymphoproliferative diseases (lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia) and prostate cancer. Other important areas of development in clinical research include breast, lung and gastrointestinal cancer.
- We have an excellent history of collaborating with both non-for-profit academic organizations and the pharmaceutical industry. Of particular relevance are our collaborations with the Institute of Oncology Research (IOR), the Institute of Biochemical Research (IRB) and the Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research (SAKK). We have a central role in the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of the Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI). Although the focus is on clinical research projects, opportunities for an experience with small projects in the laboratories could be offered if there is interest.

We are offering a Clinical Research fellowship program in Genitourinary malignancies. This would mean working under the guidance of Prof. Gillessen, a world-renowned expert in GU malignancies and author of EAU and ESMO Guidelines and the president of the Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC) and her “GU team”. If desired, we may also be able to arrange some percentage of time in a laboratory of the IOR.
- Through this, you will significantly develop not only your clinical skills but also your understanding of clinical research. We will assist you in developing research protocols and you will have the opportunity to work on publications, and to present at local and international conferences. If possible, we also hope to help you develop and deliver your own research project.
- A minimum commitment of one year is required, to allow you to complete the fellowship
- objectives.

**Job Summary/Objectives**:

- Conduct one or more research projects in the field of GU oncology;
- Develop clinical expertise in the systemic treatment management of GU malignancies, through for example: GU outpatient patient visits, second opinions, attendance at clinical meetings, preparation of clinical patient cases for presentations;
- Involvement in the conduction of early phase clinical (phase I/II) in GU protocols and develop experience in handling emerging new drugs (e.g. antibody drug conjugates);
- Participate in GU multidisciplinary tumour boards, together with experts in the field of surgical urology, radiotherapy, radiology, nuclear medicine, pathology and other specialists;
- Attend other related meetings (e.g. Journal club, prostate/GU tumour boards, IOSI internal guideline revisions and if interest laboratory/translational research meetings at the IOR);
- Undertake research (translational and/or observational studies) and actively participate in the coordination of patients in trials;
- Conceptualize and conduct specific research projects that are realizable within the period of the fellowship (focused in prostate but other uro-oncological entities are also welcome if you have sufficient expertise);
- Present your academic work at national and international meetings/conferences;
- Initiate and develop existing collaborations with international experts in the field of GU malignancies;
- Publish manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals where possible.

**Estimates of Notional Time Commitments**:

- About 40% for clinical experience and direct patient interaction;
- About 40% for research projects;
- About 20% early and later phase trials;

**Eligibility**:

- Experience in medical oncology for at least three years;
- Preferably 1 year of Internal medicine experience post specialization;
- A medicine degree;
- Proficient in Italian for patients and clinics, minimum B2 level (if non-native Italian speaker);
- Proficient in English, as this is the primary language of research and related communications.
