**Responsibilities**:
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The overall objective of the UNEP’s Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities.

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is the strategic partnership between the United Nations and over 400 banks, insurers and investors. For over 28 years UNEP FI has been shaping and driving the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and growing a global network of leading financial institutions. Through its work-streams and regional activities, peer learning, methodology development, training and research, UNEP FI carries out its mission to help the financial industry align with and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and with that take on the crucial role it must play in achieving a sustainable future.

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a strategic partnership between UN Environment and the global financial sector. UNEP FI works with approximately 450 banks, insurers and investors as well as a range of partners and organizations, to develop and promote linkages between the environment, sustainability and financial performance. Through its work-streams and regional activities, comprehensive work programme, training and research, UNEP FI carries out its mission to identify, promote, and realize the adoption of best environmental and sustainability practice at all levels of financial institution strategies and operations.

The consultant will work on the implementation of UNEP FI annual work plan in South Korea through the following project task in coordination with Industry and Thematic Lead. UNEP FI currently does not have the internal capacity to undertake these activities, and hence outside expertise is required for this purpose.

The consultant will work with UNEP FI to engage with its membership in South Korea, and also in ASEAN, stimulating involvement of members in defining and delivering UNEP FI projects (consultations, surveys, training, research etc.). They will also enable UNEP FI to identify and deliver complementary activities specifically for the country and region if/as necessary through close collaboration with Industry Coordinators and Thematic advisory groups.

Specifically, the consultant will allow UNEP FI to attract ASEAN and South Korea members & stakeholders to provide inputs to projects, communicate progress and disseminate outputs.

Finally, they will ensure UNEP FI’s presence and involvement in key national events and conferences and South KOrean members’ involvement in UNEP FI’s work plan and Regional Roundtable.

Objectives:

- To assist UNEP FI South Korea signatories to implement their respective sustainability plans and to encourage non-signatory institutions to join
- To assist UNEP FI to develop cooperation strategy on sustainable finance in Korea and ASEAN countries
- To build UNEP FI leadership in ASEAN and encourage ASEAN banks to join UNEP FI

Expected outputs:

- Outreach for new members in ASEAN and South Korea specifically
- Lead the implementation of net zero in South Korea
- Members and potential members in South Korea are provided timely and sufficient support from UNEP FI secretariat.
- Members in South Korea are informed and engaged in UNEP FI’s sustainable finance agenda and activities through the effective use of UNEP FI public and member-only websites, as primary communication tools. Members are informed of key information including South Korea member activities and major policy developments on sustainable finance in South Korea, have access to Korean translated materials, event announcements, and any other useful information such as UNEP FI governance and administration.
