**About the role**

Location: Basel
The Role: The Director, Alliance Management role will proactively manage and insure the smooth functioning of the Major Alliances.
Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Optimization of Key Collaborations:

- Direct management of a full range of designated alliances across a spectrum of both complexity and strategic importance
- Coordination and facilitation of the appropriate exchange of information and documentation for regulatory, clinical, research and commercial activities
- Management of respective alliance governance activities
- Functions as main source of information for designated alliances
- Guide internal/external team members in resolution of collaboration conflicts and acts as a resource for alliance team on complex alliances.
- Manage collaboration challenges proactively through issue identification, management of difficult conversations, mediation and constructive issue escalation and resolution.
- Foster alliance skills and knowledge development furthering the collaboration skills and capabilities of alliance teams, ultimately supporting and advancing Novartis partnering reputational excellence General Business Development Functions
- Contribute to S&E and Negotiation activities, offering insights from alliance activities - Manage stake-holders, present to internal leadership teams and drive internal consensus on opportunities.
- Adhere to internal BD review process to ensure quality and consistency of the evaluation of all BD activities in accordance with process guidelines.
- Leading and working effectively in x-functional teams. Mentor junior associates.

**Role Requirements**
- Advanced Degree (Ph.D., Pharm.D., MBA, etc.) or equivalent related experience.
- Previous Alliance Management experience including industry partnerships.
- Significant drug discovery and development experience; familiarity with Novartis as well as other Industry business models (Biotech, midsize Pharma and Academia) is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, manage difficult situations and drive toward constructive resolution and align interests of multiple parties.
- Experience managing collaboration contracts to enable effective interactions with legal colleagues and scientific teams.
- Appropriate interpersonal skills to serve as an effective interface between external collaborators and internal teams.
