In your new role as **Engineering Manager**, you take responsibility for **two **related teams**:Platform** and **DevX**.
Both teams share the mission of reducing the undifferentiated heavy lifting done by product teams and optimising for fast lead time in a secure and sustainable manner. The teams exist separately to provide focus and have clearer goals.

The mission of the **DevX Team** is to minimise cognitive overhead for engineers through intuitive tools, streamlined processes, and focus on improving the overall developer experience.
The mission of the **Platform Team** is to ensure the security and reliability of services running on AWS, define SRE practices and handle various self-servicing capabilities for SaaS tooling.

You will report to the Head of Platform, and your primary stakeholders are the various product engineering heads, principals, and the engineering director.

**In this role, you will**:

- Lead and manage the platform & DevX teams, providing technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to team members
- Identify the productivity challenges faced by product engineering teams and transform them into long-term goals & roadmap for the platform & DevX teams to execute
- You define and improve internal processes, constantly striving for improvements
- Set clear expectations for performance, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, promoting professional growth and development among team members

**Our tech stack**:

- Frontend is implemented with Vue.js / React, with Typescript as the language of choice. It consists of a mix of client-side, server-side, pre-rendered and hybrid web apps
- Backend is written in Node.js and Typescript, following a serverless and microservices architecture in a cloud-based environment using AWS. Our main services leverage Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS and S3 among others
- Engineering team IaC of choice is CDK
- Platform team IaC contains a mix of CloudFormation / terraform / cdk
- Monitoring is done mainly through Datadog and Sentry
- Codebase and services are documented using Backstage.

**Qualifications**:

- Experience in coaching and mentoring engineers, finding ways to help them grow
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Experience with process improvement and driving efficiency in engineering workflows
- Excellent project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritise projects and initiatives
- Experience in talent acquisition and development, including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management

**Nice to have**:

- Able to provide technical guidance and support to team members, ensuring high-quality and efficient delivery of projects and initiatives
- Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to the teams' areas of expertise
- Ideally experience in the AWS field, working with AWS services
- Experience leading DevOps / Platform / SRE / DevX teams
