**OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME**:
The objectives of the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) are to foster an effective global research effort on infectious diseases of poverty in which disease-endemic countries play a pivotal role. The objective of the unit is to contribute to improving health through equitable and sustainable support to excellence and leadership in research, and decision-making in disease-endemic countries and most affected communities.

**DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES**:
1. Manage and provide technical and strategic support to regional and sub-regional networks in line with TDR's strategy and portfolio aiming at increased collaboration, productivity and impact on health

2. Proactively engage in partnerships and identify innovative opportunities for synergy and fundraising

3. Interact, collaborate and harmonize activities within the unit and with TDR's implementation research portfolio

4. Equitably and proactively engage with low and middle-income national and academic institutions to support sustainable leadership in research and in the translation of research into policy and action

5. Contribute to reports and publications arising from this work and provide input into corporate TDR documentation, in consistence with activities of other components of the unit

6. Communicate effectively on these activities, to a large array of stakeholders, including governmental and international agencies to reinforce TDR's vision and added value

7. Contribute to other TDR projects and activities as relevant.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education**:
**Essential**: Advanced university degree in a field relevant to global public health.
**Desirable**: PhD degree in a field relevant to global public health.

**Experience**:
**Essential**: At least seven years of experience in supporting research or research-linked activities of relevance to global public health.
**Desirable**: Experiences from research capacity strengthening/building or international knowledge transfer activities, specifically linked to implementation or operational research. Experience in supporting international research networks. LMIC country work experience.Experience with the UN System or WHO. Publication record in relevant topics in peer-reviewed journals.

**Skills**:

- Track record of research related to infectious diseases of poverty
- Experience in promoting international research networks
- Experience in and a good understanding of low or lower-middle-income country health systems and research needs and issues around research funding and research implementation
- Broad understanding of infectious diseases of poverty
- Ability to promote TDR's facilitating role in research training and knowledge management mechanisms through its networks
