What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The Career Development Unit traineeship position contributes in the field of career development programs, further building a positive employee experience at the ICRC. We need your help to develop and deliver resources and to organize and track activities which will help ICRC employees manage their careers at the ICRC and partner with managers to support them. The post holder(s) should also support the team in the production and delivery of resources, data and metrics in an effort to position the ICRC as an employer of choice within the humanitarian sector. The programmes and services of the unit currently include Performance Management and Development, Employee Engagement, support to new line managers, talent reviews as well as general employee career development, coaching and delivery of ad hoc team interventions around employee experience, management and team behavior.

Reports to (role)

The position(s) reports to the Head of the Career Unit but work directly with the practitioners in the unit on particular projects.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

Projects support

Help and assist the team with management and overseeing of the different ongoing projects. Be a proactive actor of the design, implementation and change management phases.
Connect with our main partners (within and outside the People and Culture -PAC- Department) to ensure smooth implementation and follow-up of our projects.

Process Management/Administration support

Administrate and manage activities related to the Performance Management and Staff Engagement Survey (Our Voice) cycles. Daily management of information systems and internal databases, admin and strategic support to PAC stakeholders
Schedule and coordinate both face-to-face and online workshops, including the logístical and administrative support required
Take an active part of the development of new areas of responsibilities of the unit: the deployment of 360s’ for our staff and the consolidation of the global Talent Pipeline approach.

Metrics / Reporting

Analyze, interpret and produce regular reports on Performance Management and Development, global talent workforce and Staff Engagement Survey (Our Voice)
Analyze, interpret and report data from the unit, helping to discern and track important connections and evidence of impact.
Present said data to relevant stakeholders when necessary.

Content & Resource production

Create content to support the activities of the unit such as Performance Management and Development as well as Staff Engagement Survey.
Design and regularly update the Unit Page of the on the Intranet (ICRC internal platform)
Act as the main content producer and community manager for our internal social networks, Communities, intranet pages, Ask the ICRC, etc
Assist in the development of capacity building activities & resources to support the programs of the unit.

Document Management

Systematically keep track of all documents relevant to the unit. Proactively sort and archive them.
Create new information management processes if required in view of facilitating access to key information to colleagues in the field working with the Information Management Assistant to ensure consistency across the division.

Ad hoc support

Provide ad hoc logístical support to the Career Unit
Provide support on punctual organization of events.
Certifications / Education required
A University degree in Human Resources or relevant field (Social Science, Organizational Psychology and Adult learning)
Proven professional experience required
A first experience in either Human Resources or Organizational Development
No more than one year of paid professional experience after the last studies
Desired profile and skills
Strongly motivated by humanitarian work
Able to work autonomously and under pressure
Very proactive and able to take the lead on various project
Fast and eager learner
Strong Excel skills. Knowledge of Tableau an asset
Strong computer literacy. Good knowledge of MS SharePoint or any Information Management System an asset
Some knowledge of graphical design tools
