Phd Position in Psychology: Human Decision Making

We are seeking applicants for a four-year PhD position within the Center for _Psychology of Sustainability and Behavior Change_ led by Prof. Ulf Hahnel at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Basel, Switzerland. The newly founded center conducts research on the cognitive and affective mechanisms underlying sustainable decision making and develops evidence-based means to promote more sustainable behavior around the world. The PhD project is conducted in close collaboration with the _Center for Cognitive and Decision Sciences_ led by Prof. Rui Mata at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Basel.

**Your position**

The position is funded by the Horizon Europe Project DIAMOND which brings together a team of international leading scholars to integrate state-of-the-art research and methodological advances in order to develop the next generation of energy and climate models (including Integrated Assessment Models, IAMs). The models serve as the scientific tool used to inform policy makers around the world about climate, economic, and societal trajectories depending on human action and play a key role in the assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The interdisciplinary nature of the project bears the potential to improve the representation of human behavior in key energy and climate models which promises to yield better model predictions.

**Your tasks**
- Design experimental studies to examine judgments and decisions in the climate and energy domain in various countries
- Coordinate online data collection in the target countries in collaboration with the team and external partners
- Analyze multilevel cross-national (longitudinal) experimental data
- Interact with international leading researchers to integrate human decision making data into climate and energy models
- Write scientific articles in collaboration with international experts
- Contribute to the supervision of students

**Your profile**
- An excellent master's degree in psychology or an equivalent discipline (e.g., behavioral economics)
- Very good methodological and statistical skills (preferably using R)
- Strong interest in decision making and sustainability topics
- Previous experience with cross-cultural and longitudinal research is a plus
- Interest in pursuing a scientific career
- Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment
- Excellent oral and written skills in English
