Trainee / Internship - Prototype Fatigue Management

As part of Leonardo, Kopter currently develops the AW09, a next generation single-engine helicopter that offers the largest cabin and cargo hold in its category, increased modularity and modern electronic systems. The AW09 delivers latest safety standards as well as more performance and comfort at low operating costs.
Kopter is set to become Leonardo’s Centre of Excellence for new light helicopters and an incubator of new technologies, contributing to the development of hybrid and electrical propulsion systems. Kopter’s 320 talented team members are primarily based in Switzerland, near Zurich and in Mollis (Canton of Glarus).
**Responsibilities**:
Carrying out all the tasks aimed to guarantee the fatigue safety of the AW09 prototypes during the progress of the flight test campaign, towards the Type Certification.
The work will be performed in the Fatigue Team within the airworthiness department, in accordance with the company standards and methodologies and in compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks (EASA Part-21J and applicable certification regulations).
**The activities cover namely**:
Becoming familiar with Kopter’s fatigue calculation software and tools, mainly those developed for prototype fatigue, and with Kopter’s S-N curves database
Interfacing with the Stress and Fatigue departments of the different aircraft mechanical and structural systems, in order to gather the data necessary to the evaluation of the fatigue damage on the prototypes
Managing the modifications and evolution of the data itself, according to the re-evaluations carried out by the different Stress and Fatigue departments
Interfacing with the Flight Test and Data Acquisition, Flight Test Data Analysis and Flight Operations departments, in order to gather the data recorded during flight test activities, to be used as an input for the fatigue evaluation, as well as to manage the various modifications and development of recorded signals
Performing prototypes damage tracking and summarizing the output with periodical reporting, about the status of the fatigue damage and sharing it with the interested parties
Definition of the fatigue monitoring limits summary document, which provides data for live telemetry monitoring of fatigue parameters during prototypes flight activities. Ensuring the continuous updating of data in the face of any changes made by the various Stress and Fatigue departments
Your qualifications & experience
**For Trainee**: Master’s Degree in aerospace, mechanical, structural engineering, applied physics or similar
**For Intern**: Current studies in in aerospace, mechanical, structural engineering, applied physics or similar
Basic academic knowledge of fatigue phenomena in metallic materials and mechanical components
English minimum B2 level (verbal and written)
