- CONSTRUCTION ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH AND SAFETY ADVISOR/ MANAGER ROLE SPECIFICATION
- Multiple Data Centre projects are currently in the early phases of construction. The projects will involve significant planning and management of works on site by the appointed General Contractor/s (GC) with hundreds of construction workers expected at peak across the project.
- Vantage construction projects and operations will involve the management and co-ordination of high risk activities (HRAs) on site and cumulatively across the project and operations, including extensive excavation works, material handling, confined space entry, piling and temporary works, segregation between pedestrian and vehicle movement, works at height, significant lifting and lowering large heavy prefabricated components and live energies.
- Depending on the location unexploded ordnance (UXO) may be an issue to be reviewed.
- Competent contractors have and will be, appointed on the project/s with responsibility for site Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) management being retained by these appointed contractors.
- In addition to its statutory Environmental, Health, & Safety obligations, Vantage wishes to ensure that the highest standards of Environmental, Health & Safety management is implemented across its project/s. In this context, and given the scale and nature of the proposed works, Vantage shall appoint external construction EHS Advisor’s to represent them, and oversee the implementation of high standards of EHS management across the project/s during the construction and commissioning stages.
- KEY VANTAGE OBJECTIVES
- Ensure that Vantage complies with the local regulatory and statutory EHS requirements for the project/s.
- Where practicable implement best practice, and lessons learnt, across the project/s, based on previous experience and knowledge inclusive of Vantage requirements.
- Enhance, and improve, existing EHS management procedures through a visible on
- site presence and approach, and through active participation in all aspects of the day-to-day EHS management on the project/s.
- Work with and positively support the appointed GC for the project/s.
- Implement the Vantage EHS management programme across the project/s
- Provide an independent review, and oversight, of EHS management procedures in place for the project/s; with a view of cross-evaluation of projects, sharing lessons learnt / best practice, and driving continuous improvement across the Vantages construction supply chain.
- ROLE SPECIFICATION - CONSTRUCTION SAFETY ADVISOR
- Assisting in the identification, and management, of high-risk activities (HRA) at each stage of the project; including liaising with project teams, and working with contractors in forward safety planning and co-ordination of works activities.
- Monitoring Vantage driven Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for assessment and evaluation across the construction project (these will vary depending on each project stage).
- Reviewing, and assessing, the EHS implications of changes as they occur during the project, through safety audits and day to day site safety reviews.
- Developing, implementing, reporting, and communications structures on EHS management performance to enable accurate assessment and evaluation.

Actively engaging with all aspects of day-to-day EHS management e.g. attendance, and participation, in
- Meetings (both management & personnel as appropriate);
- Training workshops;
- Daily Activity Briefings and HRAs
- Collaborative Planning i.e. planning and co-ordination of forthcoming construction works on a 2, 4 and 6 weekly cycle, dependant on the lookahead plan.
- Management reviews.
- HRA Inspections and observations
- Development of EHS initiatives and campaigns
- Reviewing of data integrity and confirming weekly and monthly statistics accuracy
- Attending planning and co-ordination reviews, for both day-to-day and longer-term EHS planning for work activities.
- Assisting in the evaluation of effectiveness of EHS planning at site level; e.g. through the assessment of communications with all parties; including contractors, workers, and supervisors.

Carrying out independent EHS audits on all aspects of construction management; including
- monitoring compliance between EHS planning and actual works on site;
- assessing compliance with agreed KPIs
