Innovation Ecosystem Lead - Water
- The World Economic Forum (the Forum), committed to improving the state of the world, is the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation. The Forum engages the foremost political, business and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
- The Centre for Climate & Nature (CNC) seeks to bring innovation and frontier approaches to help the international system be more agile and equipped to respond to today's challenges. The Centre does this by helping the international community leverage public-private cooperation, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, systems thinking and a platform approach for improved management of the global commons and building sustainable markets for the 2030 development goals.
- As part of the Centre’s activities, the Forum’s Global Water Initiative is committed to accelerating an innovation and entrepreneurship agenda for healthy and resilient freshwater systems, in partnership with UpLink.
- UpLink is a digital platform hosted by the World Economic Forum that enables the next generation of environmentally, socially and ethically minded ventures and funds from around the world to solve society’s most pressing challenges as set out in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UpLink convenes a growing innovation ecosystem among entrepreneurs, experts, investors and partners to help leading organisations and companies catalyse and deliver mission-driven innovations and new business models to tackle the issues that the SDGs must conquer by 2030.

- This role reports to the Head of the Global Water Initiative with a dotted line to the Head of Venture Sourcing and Impact, UpLink working in close collaboration with the UpLink Impact Lead - Water.
- Main Responsibilities:
- DRIVING PARTNER AND INVESTOR ENGAGEMENT- Lead the strategy and value proposition articulation to engage key stakeholders from the public and private sector and build a multi-stakeholder community (complementary organisations, other similar platforms, NGOs, accelerators, impact investors, VCs and experts) in support of water innovation, aquapreneurs and water-focused funds.-
- Facilitate introductions and meaningful collaboration opportunities for respective UpLink aquapreneurs and water-focused funds with Impact Partners, Investors and Forum platforms, communities, and networks.- INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM BUILDING- Support the innovation ecosystem mapping, pipeline building and active outreach and formalizing collaborations with the identified stakeholders in the water innovation space-
- Develop a pipeline and network of mission-aligned external organizations, with resources to support aquapreneurs either financially or otherwise, committed to supporting UpLink water challenges-
- Support the design and programming of key activities by nominating experts, investors, incubators, or organizations to get involved with the programming for UpLink aquapreneurs (i.e. investor and expert roundtables, virtual sessions, etc.). And ensure links to broader Forum and water-specific events and sessions.- STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT AND CROSS-TEAM COLLABORATION- Synchronize and integrate engagement strategy with broader engagement strategy for Global Water Initiative and Champions for Water Innovation Community-
- Collaborate closely with the UpLink team, in the development of a strategy and pathway to mainstream, accelerate, and scale innovation within the Forum’s Water Initiative and other platforms-
- Collaborate closely with several team across the Forum around the identification and support of partners to help accelerate and scale the impact of the UpLink Water Innovation Ecosystem.-
- Work with the World Economic Forum media and video team to produce videos and communication material in support of the water innovation ecosystem.- Preferred Requirements and Experience- 7-10 years of professional experience in the public sector, private sector or civil society, international working experience is a plus-
- Strong understanding of sustainability and the issues core to the global water security agenda, including climate change, resilience, nature, and circular economy-
- A passion for the role of innovation and entrepreneurship as a key accelerator for sustainable development-
- Familiarity with the accelerator, incubator or investor eco-system-
- Master’s, political science, environmental science, MPA, MBA or equivalent degree in business-
- Experience in handling public-private partnerships and multi-stakeholder platforms-
- Excellent knowledge of the water political and stakeholder landscape-
- Excellent relationship management skills and international network among key individual
