Researcher - Progress Monitoring Idmc

vor 9 Stunden

Geneve, Schweiz Norwegian Refugee Council Vollzeit

NRC’s Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) is the world's definitive source of data and analysis on internal displacement. Since our establishment in 1998 as part of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), we have offered a rigorous, independent and trusted service to the international community. Our work informs policy and operational decisions that improve the lives of the millions of people living in internal displacement, or at risk of becoming displaced in the future.

As part of IDMC's investment in more systematic monitoring of national and global efforts to reduce the risk, scale and negative impacts of internal displacement, an Internal Displacement Index (IDI) and a Global Repository of Good Practices were recently developed. The IDI combines information on the impacts of displacement, the context in which it happens, and governments’ efforts to address it. It is the first and only tool available today to comprehensively measure progress on internal displacement. It is updated every other year. The Global Repository of Good Practices provides a platform to compile, share and evaluate policies and programmatic approaches to support better solutions for internally displaced people worldwide.

IDMC is looking for an experienced Researcher to oversee all of IDMC’s efforts to monitor and support progress on internal displacement at the global level and in interested countries.

**What you will do**:
The Researcher will be expected to engage with a variety of internal and external actors, including in countries affected by internal displacement, identify and analyse large amounts of complex quantitative and qualitative information, and represent IDMC in high level and technical events to present key findings to both specialists and non-specialist audiences.

- Lead research on successful initiatives to prevent, respond to and end internal displacement in all countries and contexts.
- Lead research on monitoring progress on internal displacement at the global and national levels.
- Strengthen capacity of actors in countries affected by internal displacement to monitor and achieve progress.
- Support IDMC’s efforts in galvanizing action to prevent, reduce and end internal displacement through targeted dissemination and partner engagement.

If you are curious and would like to learn more about this opportunity, please see **here **for the full job description.

**What you will bring**:

- Master’s degree related to displacement, international development, migration, humanitarian affairs, or related field.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a related field, including research or humanitarian work in displacement settings.
- Excellent writing skills and ability to translate large amounts of data and analysis in an accessible way for non-technical audiences.
- Strong initiative and collaborative working style.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; knowledge of another language a plus.
- Ability to question, understand and evaluate quantitative and qualitative research on internal displacement.
- Experience engaging with government representatives or high-level officials.
- Experience working in countries affected by internal displacement.
- Knowledge of the Internal Displacement Index, its methodology and data sources an advantage.

**What makes this position attractive?**
- A challenging and exciting opportunity with an international team dedicated to advancing practical, data-based solutions to internal displacement;
- A permanent position with IDMC in Geneva;
- Salary and benefits according to NRC/IDMC’s salary scale and terms and conditions.
- Flexible working hours.

**We are also looking for people who share our values**:

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian organisation helping people forced to flee. We work in crises across more than 31 countries, providing emergencies and long-term assistance to millions of people every year. We stand up for people forced to flee, advocating their rights. NORCAP, our global provider of expertise, helps improve international and local ability to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from crises. NRC also runs the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre in Geneva, a global leader in reporting on and advocating for people displaced within their own country.

Employment with NRC may lead to employment in or deployment to Regions, Countries, Areas or Offices that may be host to considerable health, safety and security risks. NRC takes this very seriously and we have procedures in place to reduce known risks, but will
