ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT

The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) of the Union which deals mainly with ICT-focused development policies, strategies and programmes, as well as technical cooperation activities, to promote digital inclusion and drive digital transformation at community, country and regional levels. To effectively and efficiently serve the needs of ITU members, BDT is organized into four functional areas:

- Office of the Deputy to the Director and Field Operations Coordination Department
- Partnerships for Digital Development Department
- Digital Networks & Society Department
- Digital Knowledge Hub Department

**TERMS OF REFERENCE**:
Under the regular supervision of the Climate Change Officer of the Environment and Emergency Telecommunications (EET) Division, and in close cooperation with members of the EET team, the Intern will:

- Support the team with research for upcoming publications and the associated preparations for public launch, including identifying key communication messages and event coordination.
- Support the team remotely in preparing the Green Digital Action Track at COP-28 by assisting in partnership outreach, event planning, and logistics to help ensure the smooth execution.
- Utilize ITU research on ICT sector GHG emissions from digital companies and countries from 2023 publications to create a visually appealing and informative ArcGIS Story Map. Summarize the findings and present them in an accessible format for a wider audience.
- Assist in the preparation of an introductory e-learning course using RISE 360 on an ‘Introduction to Monitoring and Measuring ICT Sector GHG emissions’. Use ITU work and industry best practices to create interactive educational content that will help others understand and assess GHG emissions in the ICT sector.
- Help raise awareness of green digital transformation initiatives by contributing to the creation of content for various communication channels. This includes assisting with the preparations for the launch of EET publications and e-learning courses planned for 2023-2024.

**COMPETENCIES**:

- Knowledge of environmental issues, particularly those concerning circular economy, climate change and green digital transformation.
- Familiarity or willingness to learn how to use e-learning authoring software and ArcGIS Story Maps.
- Ability to draft clearly and concisely, good written and oral language skills.
- Good interpersonal skills, willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues and ask questions to clarify work.
- Good organizational skills to assisting with event planning and ensuring the smooth execution of initiatives.

**QUALIFICATION REQUIRED**:
**Education required**: University degree (or completing an advanced University degree) in the areas of global environmental governance and sustainable development or environmental studies, or an equivalent level of education and specialization in a relevant field.

**Experience**: No working experience required.

**Languages**: Advanced level of English. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
