The EBU is looking for a Director of Member Relations Communications based in Geneva.

ABOUT THE MEMBER RELATIONS COMMUNICATIONS (MRC) DEPARTMENT

The MRC department is of crucial importance to the mission and tasks of the EBU. It ensures that the EBU will continue to serve and function as a pro-active and agile Member-driven association that champions public service media (PSM) values and the vital and necessary role of PSM in European culture, society and public discourse. In doing so, the department requires a strong champion that will continuously engage Members at the senior executive level while leading a proactive and focused Member Relations team to support the EBU as an organisation in best serving the needs of Members.

The MRC department leads the EBU’s member relations’ efforts, including strategizing, planning for, and implementing activities and services that provide value to Members, assisting Members in maximizing their use of EBU services and promoting membership retention and growth. The department also develops a long-term strategy for internal external communications of EBU/PSM matters, marketing of the EBU member value proposition, assessing membership satisfaction with EBU, and contributing to the alignment of the EBU activities with Members' needs and priorities. In doing so it develops campaigns arguments, jointly with Members, that make the case for PSM and engage stakeholders to make a difference in PSM outcomes. It also supports Members by creating a tailored communications, research and influence strategy, and by coordinating its planned implementation with all other EBU departments. The department also maintains and develops institutional relationships with many intergovernmental and international organisations as well as other international broadcasting associations and civil society organisations.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION

The key responsibilities of the role:

- developing and managing corporate processes within the EBU that facilitate effective relationships between the EBU and its Members.
- articulating the EBU’s value proposition and ensuring that it is effectively communicated and demonstrated to Members by representing the EBU at public engagements and make the case publicly for PSM in Members' interest.
- serving as the business owner for membership data held by EBU in its internal data base.
- liaising with all Directors of the organisation to achieve relevant member-related strategic goals.
- contributing to EBU planning, priority-setting, strategy shaping and policy discussions as well as to the achievement of the association’s strategic goals and objectives.
- leading a team responsible for overseeing member engagement with the EBU and communications.
- managing institutional relations.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

This role will require:

- a service-driven, curious, energetic person and an influential leader with extensive media knowledge and management experience who also has a strong vision for the future of the industry and the media environment.
- good collaborative skills, positive and constructive manners with Members and with other EBU Directors.
- a track record of managing partnerships with other organisations and associations.
- recognised authority on communication, PR, and PSM matters.
- 10+ years experience in the broadcasting media industry (Radio, TV, multimedia).
- senior management experience.
- demonstrated experience in public outreach and information dissemination as well as effective approaches to engagement dialogue and consensus building preferably in membership-based organizations.
- understanding of the mission of public service media and the demands of the audience in the digital world.
- solid understanding of financial statements and forecasts.

Member focus and communication:

- excellent understanding of the EBU, its mandate, strategic focus, programs, services and priorities.
- strong knowledge of member institutions’ diverse mandates, strategic priorities, capabilities, and socio-economic and cultural contexts in order to best identify and offer a
- solid value proposition.
- sound judgement and political sensitivity are critical to the role.
- excellent understanding of communication and campaign management, staff management, stakeholder influencing financial management is vital.
- excellent public speaker and strong communicator with excellent written, presentation and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- must be self-confident in his or her knowledge and experience, with a high degree of openness to others’ opinions and a good sense of diplomacy.
- ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, staff, and external contacts, and to work effectively in a professional team environment at senior level.
