What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The Workforce Planning and Career Path Advisor lead the Workforce Planning (WFP) process and methodology for the Generalist Delegate and Red Line pool of the Department of Operations. You support the team in translating operational strategy into forecasted workforce demand, analyzing and prioritizing workforce supply gaps, and determining action plans to address the gaps and keep the pool healthy. With the insight of the other Talent Managers in the unit, you are responsible for designing career paths, analyzing and drawing trends from the existing data of successful career journeys, both vertical and transversal from and to other departments and National Societies of the RCRC.

You will report to the Head of Generalists’ Talent Manager Unit (direct manager) and the Head of People Analytics Unit (functional manager).

Main duties and responsibilities (1/3)

You are accountable for ensuring that Talent Managers within the team have the adequate capacity and support to run WFP activities at their level and the leadership receive the necessary information required to drive decision-making and subsequent action. In particular, you periodically analyze the delta - number of promotions and hiring needed for each level of the Generalist roles. In this regard, you also have an advisory role for other métiers who would want to replicate the methodology.

You support data science activities, e.g. by preparing data and taking part in the analysis process, ensuring the development of good quality and accuracy of the data to support all analysis. Moreover, you identify analysis needs and develop the analytical solution and tools to answer those needs. You advise and assist the unit in reflecting on their performance measures, improving their functional areas of expertise and providing extensive support with data and analysis.

With the insight of the other Talent Managers in the unit, you are responsible for designing career paths, analyzing and drawing trends from the existing data of successful career journeys, both vertical and transversal from and to other departments and National Societies of the RCRC. You create the visual representation of the career paths and ensure the information is accessible and user-friendly. You identify key milestones in developing the required level of functional and key competencies, training and experience for each level of the generalist positions.

Main duties and responsibilities (2/3)

Workforce Planning and Analytics

You lead the Workforce Planning practice for the Generalist pool, continuously adapting to internal and external trends.
You are the Workforce Planning expert for the unit, advising other Talent Managers and the Head of the Unit on theoretical and practical aspects of the workforce planning process.
You provide continuous coaching and support to the team on all elements of Workforce Planning.
You prepare consolidated information, analytics and insights at the department level to support decision-making.
Assist the department in reflecting on their performance measures and improvements in the functional area of expertise and provide ongoing data and analysis support.
Support Talent Managers by providing analytics visualizations.
You actively collaborate with the People Analytics /Workforce Planning Unit.
You play an advisory role on the methodology for its replication in other pools in ICRC where relevant.

Career Paths Design

You design career paths for Operational/Red Line positions through analyzing and drawing trends from the existing data of successful career journeys, both vertically and transversal from and to other departments, National Societies of the RCRC Movement and with a focus on the Protection Department.
You identify key milestones in developing the required level of functional competencies, key competencies, experience and training to be equipped and qualify for Operational/Red Line positions at all levels.
With the insight provided by the team, you specifically design career paths for taking on operational management positions in challenging contexts.
