**Student Assistant position for the support of teaching and research activities on gender and political science 20%**:
Start preferably mid-April, latest 1 May 2024 - fixed term for 9 months

The Institute of Political Science at the University of Bern is one of the leading political science departments in Switzerland and is ranked among the Excellence Group of European political science departments by the latest CHE Excellence Ranking. At the IPW, the student assistant will work as part of the international and interdisciplinary research team of the Horizon Europe Project “UNTWIST,” which aims to investigate the role of gender in the mobilization of far-right parties across Europe. Additionally, the role includes supporting ongoing research projects on online radicalization in far-right male supremacist communities (e.g. incels). In addition to research, the Student Assistant will be involved in activities for the course “The Politics of Methods in an Age of Post-Truth and Anti-Science,” including background research and support with the class administration on ILIAS. Moreover, the assistant will support development of grant proposals, both at the Swiss and European level.

Tasks
- Assist with the implementation of the "Politics of Method" MA course, including background research, support with the teaching platform ILIAS (integrated learning, information and work cooperation system) and support of a two-day workshop in late May
- Support the research activities of the Horizon EU project "UNTWIST," including data collection, analysis, and drafting project reports
- Assist in the development of a Special Issue Collection on Gender-based Needs in Europe (including reviewing abstracts, contacting authors and database management)
- Depending on interest and capacities, development of research outputs in the form of public reports and/or journal articles

**Requirements**:

- Mandatory_
- Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Gender Studies, or Sociology
- Enrolment in a Swiss university for the entire duration of the employment
- Very good knowledge of English (spoken and written) (B2 level), knowledge of (Swiss-)German advantageous, but not required
- Good research skills and ability to write concise summaries
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Good organizational skills (shown through e.g. experience in supporting or organizing events, classes, or workshops)
- Optional_
- Knowledge of or interest the topics of online (far-right) radicalization, political violence, and feminist theories
- Interest in programming languages for data analysis (e.g., Python) and/or in qualitative coding software (e.g., MAXQDA)
- Experience working with ILIAS or other similar online platforms (e.g. Moodle) as well as the literature database Zotero is an advantage
