Senior Patent Litigation Paralegal

Join a dynamic team at Novartis where you will manage high‑impact patent litigation cases, working closely with in‑house and external counsel to drive strategic litigation efforts and oversee key operational processes. Location and Mode Hybrid – Basel, Switzerland Key Responsibilities Provide and utilize IP expertise to support IP counsels and the IP function, championing quality, collaboration and operational excellence. Support implementation of IP policies and guidelines, giving non‑legal advice to business colleagues and ensuring business goals are met efficiently. Support in‑house patent litigation counsel and attorneys in preparation for patent enforcement and defense, interacting with local counsel and local business franchises. Monitor and update Anaqua daily. Communicate effectively with colleagues, agents and associates; participate in litigation group and cross‑divisional meetings. Lead teams in development of procedures and processes; recommend areas/systems for improvement in efficiencies. Lead projects relating to litigation processes/operations, driving successful implementation of new and revised processes and guidelines. Autonomously support in‑house patent litigation counsel and attorneys on matters such as patent ownership and licensing structure. Act as contact point for local lawyers/local team for patent litigation matters, using the litigation database and information management. Attend and draft memorandum of litigation meetings with local counsel and local business, providing action points and following up on agreed objectives. Manage the IP litigation budget process; prepare and deliver litigation budget forecasts by liaising with internal and external attorneys, the BPA and e‑billing coordinator. Supervise junior litigation paralegals, local litigation team coordinators and new team members, providing guidance on internal and external processes and database management. Essential Requirements Relevant degree or equivalent experience; paralegal qualification/certification or equivalent. Proficiency in English (spoken & written); other languages are an asset. Demonstrated professional experience as an IP paralegal or equivalent in an IP litigation law firm or corporation. Extensive experience providing complex patent litigation support autonomously in a large multinational company (preferably in‑house or law firm). Ability to work autonomously in preparation of draft schedules and supporting documents for subsequent attorney review; communicate with business clients in multiple countries. Excellent team‑player with exemplary interpersonal skills; reliable, service‑oriented with impeccable integrity and willingness to learn. Proven ability to balance and identify priorities, manage varying workload levels and support the IP team efficiently and in a solution‑oriented, contextualized manner. Proactive approach to project/workstream involvement; recommend solutions prior to being instructed. Active participation in relevant projects; willingness to learn and develop in the role.
