Information Technology Infrastructure Architect

The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) is seeking to recruit a Information Technology Infrastructure Architect, ideally beginning as soon as possible or at a mutually agreed date.

ESMO is a learned society for the medical oncology profession. The Society aims to provide its members with a range of professional services to improve standards of practice of medical oncology by enhancing the knowledge and competence of its members.

MISSION OF THE POSITION:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Information Technology Infrastructure Architect with a strong focus on Microsoft technologies to join our growing team.

In this critical role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing innovative and scalable infrastructure solutions leveraging Azure, MS365, and modern management principles.

You will play a key role in enhancing our security posture and improving the overall user experience by

• Managing the modern workplace: this includes overseeing the Service Desk team, managing the MS365 environment, and the identity and access management solutions, including conditional access policies and Intune modern device management with Autopilot. Deliver support to staff within the organization remotely, on premises, and during the annual congress events to the congress venue.

• Developing and maintaining the virtual infrastructure: This encompasses physical and virtual environments, Azure hybrid cloud integrations, and modern management solutions. This role is critical for shaping the organization’s technological landscape and driving innovation through infrastructure enhancements.

• Developing and maintaining the network infrastructure: This includes Teams telephony, cloud secure printing, switching and firewalling, internet access, wireless, and cloud integration. The role should also oversee the set-up of audio-video equipment in the premises meeting rooms and give support during the meetings setup when needed.

In addition to technical leadership, the Digital Infrastructure Architect collaborates with stakeholders at all levels to ensure that infrastructure initiatives meet organizational requirements.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Responsibilities

• The role will act under the supervision of the Infrastructure Manager
• Work closely with other IT teams to ensure smooth integration and collaboration.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into technical solutions.
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Develop and maintain documentation and SOP for all infrastructure components.

Modern Workplace Management

User Support:

• Oversee the Service Desk team and ensure efficient ticket management and resolution.
• Improve, together with the other teams, the ITSM self-service portal and knowledge base to empower users.
• Manage incident, service requests and problem management processes.
• Provide second-level support for end-users.
• Provide training and support to end-users on new tools and technologies and during the onboarding process.

Microsoft 365 Administration:

• Configure and manage Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive for Business.
• Implement and maintain email security and compliance policies.
• Manage SharePoint Online sites and permissions.
• Configure Teams for effective collaboration and communication.

Identity and Access Management:

• Design and implement Azure AD for single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, and self-service password reset.
• Configure conditional access policies to protect sensitive data.
• Manage user provisioning and deprovisioning processes.

Device Management:

• Manage Intune for mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM).
• Manage Autopilot for zero-touch device provisioning.
• Manage device compliance policies.

Virtual Infrastructure

Azure Infrastructure:

• Design and implement Azure IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions.
• Manage Azure resources, including virtual machines, storage, and networks.
• Optimize Azure costs and performance.

Virtualization:

• Manage the virtual environment (VMware, vSAN)
• Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
• Optimize virtual machine performance.

Cloud Integration:

• Integrate on-premises systems with Azure cloud services.
• Migration of the on-premise workloads to the cloud.
• Manage hybrid cloud environments.

Automation:

• Automate infrastructure tasks using PowerShell

Network Infrastructure

Networking:

• Design, implement, and manage LAN, WAN, and WLAN networks.
• Configure routers, switches, and firewalls and VPNs
• Implement network segmentation and security policies.
• Manage the Teams Phone System
• Manage wireless access points and controllers.

Audio-Visual:

• Manage audio-visual systems in conference rooms (Poly, Barco, Extron)
• Troubleshoot and maintain audio-visual equipment.

Service and Project Management:

• Oversee the lifecycle of projects and change requests, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and timely delivery.
• Maintain high-quality IT project and service documentation.
• Manage internal service support, addressing configuration issues or service disruptions.
• Provide technical support and training to end-users during the onboarding.
• Troubleshoot and resolve Infrastructure-related issues promptly.

Governance and Compliance:

• Enforce solutions’ governance policies and ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal guidelines.
• Regularly update and audit infrastructure equipment to maintain data integrity and security.

Contract Management:

• Manage the cost and performance of all contracted services and consultants within the BU scope.
• Ensure that services delivered align with expectations and needs, negotiating terms of services.

ROLES AND SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS

The Microsoft 365 global admin role is required for this position

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Basic training and specialization:

• ITIL Foundation certification is mandatory
• TOGAF certification is a welcome plus
• Microsoft Azure / MS365 certifications is a welcome plus
• Lack of education titles could be compensated by a robust professional experience.

Required professional experience:

• 3+ years of experience with Microsoft 365 services
• Proven experience with modern management tools like Intune, device enrollment, application management, and endpoint security.
• Professional experience in office and asset management.
• Proficient in VMware virtualization technology.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching, firewalls).
• Experience in IT support to end-user especially in structured help desk;
• Experience with identity and access management solutions (e.g., Active Directory, Entra ID, multi-factor authentication).
