Radiation Physicist for FCC-ee (SY-STI-BMI-2025-253-GRAP) In this role, you will perform Monte Carlo radiation transport studies for the FCC-ee technical insertions, quantifying the radiation exposure of equipment installed in the FCC-ee tunnel. In addition, you will perform energy deposition studies for the design of different FCC-ee accelerator systems, in particular the collider and booster dump systems and protection devices. Your responsibilities Carry out particle‑matter interaction studies with the FLUKA Monte Carlo code and implement geometry models for FCC‑ee machine studies. Assess the expected radiation levels due to regular beam losses and synchrotron radiation emission in the FCC‑ee technical insertions. Perform energy deposition studies for accidental beam losses in FCC‑ee and actively participate in the conceptual design of FCC‑ee protection devices (absorbers, collimators) and dumps. Closely collaborate with beam physicists and mechanical engineers, in order to translate absorber and dump concepts into technical specifications. Your profile Knowledge of particle‑matter interactions. Experience with Monte Carlo radiation transport simulations. Proficiency in scientific computing. Knowledge of accelerator physics is an advantage. The ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary and international team environment. Skills Knowledge of Monte Carlo radiation transport codes (FLUKA, Geant4, etc.). Basic programming skills (e.g. Python, C++) for data analysis and code development. Familiarity with numerical methods and scientific computing. Problem‑solving mindset and ability to learn new tools quickly (e.g. auxiliary tools for particle transport simulations). Excellent team‑working attitude, with colleagues from different fields of applied physics and engineering. Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French. You have a professional background in Applied Physics (or a related field) and have either: a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post‑graduation professional experience; or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post‑graduation professional experience. You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before. Job details Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum. Working hours: 40 hours per week. Job flexibility: Fully Onsite. Job reference: SY-STI-BMI-2025-253-GRAP. Field of work: Applied Physics. A monthly stipend between 6,287 and 6,911 Swiss Francs per month (tax free) depending on your degree. 30 days of paid leave per year plus 2 weeks annual closure. Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health insurance scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund. Family, child and infant monthly allowances depending on your individual circumstances. A relocation package (installation grant and travel expenses) depending on your individual circumstances. Possibility to extend your contract up to 36 months. On-the-job and formal training including language classes.
