Education & Qualifications Requirements:

Qualifications/special skills:

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.

Work Experience:

• Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word and MS Teams.
• Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable.

Languages:

• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
• Fluency in English OR French is required for the internship.
• Knowledge of any additional official UN language is an asset.

The intern will work directly with the Chief of Protocol and the Senior Protocol Assistant to provide assistance with the following tasks/responsibilities:

• Preparation and coordination of activities for the President of the General Assembly, the Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General, when visiting Geneva.
• Preparation for the participation of Heads of State/Government, Ministers for Foreign Affairs, and other high-level officials to meetings at UNOG.
• Organization of luncheons, dinners, receptions, and other social events hosted by the Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General, and the Director-General.
• Arranging Credential and Nomination ceremonies for Permanent Representative-designates / Permanent Observer-designates.
• Updating and publishing the “Blue Book” - a listing of diplomatic members of permanent missions and permanent observer missions accredited to the United Nations Office at Geneva.
• Issuance of United Nations passes for personnel of permanent missions of Member States and permanent observer missions accredited to the United Nations Office at Geneva.
• Responding to e-mail and telephone enquiries.
