System Engineer – Interlocking Systems

Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate engineering tasks related to interlocking systems for mainline and urban rail projects, from concept through system integration and commissioning. Define system architecture, interfaces, and functional requirements in alignment with signalling, control, and safety standards. Translate customer and operational requirements into technical specifications and ensure their consistent implementation throughout the project lifecycle. Collaborate closely with hardware, software, and validation teams to ensure seamless integration of interlocking systems within the overall signalling solution. Perform system analysis and verification activities, including safety, reliability, and change impact assessments. Support the preparation of documentation for design approval, validation, and customer acceptance. Participate in internal and external technical reviews, design workshops, and on-site integration tests. Education & Professional Experience Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline (BSc/MSc or equivalent). Minimum of 5 years of experience in signalling or control systems engineering, ideally with a focus on interlocking systems. Familiarity with EN 50126 / 50128 / 50129 standards and system safety processes in the railway domain. Experience with functional design, requirements management, and validation tools used in railway signalling projects. Strong analytical and system-oriented mindset with attention to detail and safety‑critical processes. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross‑functional, international teams. Structured, proactive, and capable of managing multiple technical interfaces in complex projects. Fluent in English and German (B2/C1 level); additional European languages are an asset.
