This position reports to

R&D Team Lead

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience through a temporary work placement (6 months). Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting ABB’s operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities. You will have an opportunity to work on different aspects of a sensor system for automation of electrical protection systems. The focus is on experimental design, sensor selection, signal acquisition, and data interpretation. The work model for the role is: hybrid #LI-Hybrid. This role is contributing to ABB Corporate Research in Baden-Dättwil, Switzerland. Main stakeholder is ABB Electrification - Smart Buildings. You will be mainly responsible for:

  • Experiment design, sensor selection, and quick prototyping
  • Implementation of dedicated signal acquisition
  • Sensor signal analysis and processing
  • Information extraction and classification
  • Review of academic literature
  • Documentation of findings and developed solutions
Qualifications for the role
  • You currently pursue a degree (enrollment to 5th semester or higher is essential) in Electrical Engineering or similar field
  • You are interested in the following fields: industrial sensor solutions, signal and data interpretation, and experimental lab work
  • You have experience with electronics, signal acquisition/processing (preferably in acoustics), and programming (preferably Matlab)
  • You are willing to learn and quickly adapt to new research topics
  • You are self-motivated and have a hands-on attitude
  • You are at ease communicating in English
  • Non-EU/non-EFTA citizens, please note that a certificate from your university, showing that an internship is a mandatory part of your studies, is required for the visa application
