Employment Type: Full-time As an Electronics Control Technician, you will support the installation, upgrade, and maintenance of the vacuum control systems that protect and monitor CERN’s accelerators. You will work both autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team of technicians and engineers, following established procedures and quality assurance standards. The role involves frequent interaction with contractors and CERN groups involved in signal cabling, IT networks, and electrical power infrastructure. You will contribute directly to the large-scale upgrade of the vacuum control systems for the High‑Luminosity LHC (HL‑LHC), carrying out hands‑on technical activities in workshops, surface buildings, and accelerator tunnels. The TE‑VSC‑ICM section is responsible for all vacuum control systems, vacuum interlocks, and monitoring tools across CERN’s accelerators and detectors. During Long Shutdown 3 (LS3), starting mid‑2026 and lasting around three years, these systems for the LHC will undergo major modernisation. This is work you will actively support. Your responsibilities Perform reception tests of control equipment and cables in laboratory settings. Install and uninstall control equipment and cables in racks and accelerator tunnels. Disassemble and reassemble vacuum control systems at LHC Point 1 and Point 5 to accommodate the new HL‑LHC layout, including experiments. Install radiation‑tolerant electronics in all LHC arcs. Install new controllers at all LHC points. Test and commission control equipment. Calibrate controllers and electronics. Perform insulation tests on cables. Validate measurement chains, interlocks, and alarm systems. Produce and update technical documentation. More information here. Your profile Hands‑on experience with laboratory instrumentation (Source‑Meter Units, oscilloscopes, bench power supplies, digital multimeters, insulation testers). Assembly and testing of high‑ and low‑voltage connectors and cables. Assembly and testing of control chassis. Skills Knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits. Basic programming skills (PLC, LabVIEW, Python). Proficiency with Altium Designer (or similar EDA software) and Microsoft Office. Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language. Eligibility criteria You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electronics, Industrial Control/Automation (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma. You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before. Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible. Additional Information Job closing date: 15.01.2026 at 23:59 CET.
