Company DescriptionAt CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Introduction You will join the Electronic Systems for Experiments Group (ESE) of the Experimental Physics Department (EP), which designs electronic systems and ASICs for CERN experiments and provides a range of electronics-related services. As an Electronics Technician within the Front-End section, you will actively contribute to the development, procurement, assembly, and testing of electronics, printed circuit boards, and multi-chip modules for powering, readout, and control of particle detectors at CERN. Functions Design and develop electronic circuits, including schematic capture and PCB layout, as part of a team of engineers and technicians. Support the procurement of electronic components, equipment, and printed circuit boards, and manage stock. Support logistics and quality control of large-volume procurements of detector modules. Perform quality inspections of components and assembled circuits to ensure compliance with acceptance criteria. Assemble, troubleshoot, and rework PCBs, including soldering of surface-mount devices and connectors. Conduct functional and performance tests on circuits using electronic measurement instruments and document results. Develop and maintain test equipment, including automation software for testing processes. Execute electrical and optical cabling, including fabrication of cable harnesses and cable assemblies. Design mechanical parts using CAD tools and manufacture them using machine tools, CNC machines, and 3D printers. Qualifications Higher technical diploma or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Electronics Engineering or a related field. Experience Detail-oriented and hands-on professional with a background in electronics or mechatronics. Experienced in assembling, testing, and troubleshooting electronic boards and systems. Skilled in PCB design and familiar with manufacturing processes. Comfortable working with laboratory instruments and developing test equipment for circuit diagnostics. Knowledgeable about industrial standards and quality control practices. Committed to delivering high-quality results reliably and on time. Able to work effectively both in a team environment and independently. Technical Competencies Assembly of electronic components. Knowledge and application of quality and reliability assurance techniques in electronics. Knowledge and application of instrumentation and measurement techniques.
