We seek a skilled Data Center Technician with a passion for technology to help expand our cloud to the next level. As a Data Center Technician, you will work in some of the most high‑tech data centers in the world. You will perform repetitive tasks with strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to protect and handle customer data. Your responsibilities include maintaining system reliability, troubleshooting hardware and network issues, and supporting 24/7 on‑call rotations. Key job responsibilities Maintain a high level of system reliability by prioritizing and resolving trouble tickets efficiently Escalation point and technical troubleshooter for all systems and network hardware problems Escalate to senior technicians and management as needed Triage and resolve trouble tickets for all devices in your region Physical replacement of server and network device parts Interact with third‑party vendors and contractors Contribute ideas to improve operational efficiency Engage with Remote Hands & Eyes Participate in team meetings for metric analysis and project status updates Technical Troubleshoot technical issues on various platforms ranging from systems through networking Remediation of physical layer outages, both systems and network Operations Adhere to security and safety best practices in the data center Meet 24x7 on‑call requirements and respond during shift rotations Install and configure racks of hosts in line with internal SLAs Data center point of contact for all high severity issues Help build the world’s largest cloud infrastructure Mentoring Share knowledge and help educate less technical staff on best practices related to all service owner issues Hiring Contribute towards building a great team by participating in the Amazon hiring process and candidate interviews Basic qualifications Hardware troubleshooting experience Booting: POST, BIOS, PXE, Kickstart, GRUB/LILO, RAID Some experience with network protocols: TCP/IP, Ethernet, Layer 2 & Layer 3 troubleshooting Network hardware: copper and optical fiber cabling, switches, routers Strong communication skills Passionate about IT infrastructure and hardware Physical ability to lift and rack equipment up to 18 kilos; may require working in cramped spaces or elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines. Position is shift based and involves a shift rotation to ensure 24/7 coverage. Preferred qualifications Remote access: console routers, IPMI, BMC Network equipment installation and troubleshooting Redundancy: power feeds, ATS, server hardware, RAID, network connectivity Data center operations: inventory management, hot/cold aisles, security Experience with Excel and the ability to manipulate data and create charts and diagrams Participation in project management Experience or knowledge of AWS products: EC2, EBS, S3, etc. Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
