Intern - Data Integrity and Quality Assurance

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the overall direction and supervision of the IT Assistant of the secretariat of the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB), the Intern will support the Finance and Budget Network in maintaining and enhancing data integrity across historical records. The focus of this role is to conduct thorough reviews, identify discrepancies, and implement corrective measures to ensure accuracy and consistency of data. In particular, the intern will be expected to:
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of historical Finance data files to identify and rectify discrepancies.
- Implement corrective measures to maintain data integrity and consistency across all records.
- Develop and apply data cleaning techniques to ensure high-quality data.
- Collaborate with team members to understand data requirements and provide support in data-related tasks.
- Document data cleaning processes and maintain detailed records of changes made.
- Assist in the development of standard operating procedures for data quality assurance.
- Support in the preparation of progress reports and documentation related to data integrity efforts.
- Undertake other duties as may be required.
Qualifications/special skills:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. For this position, an educational background in finance, accounting, economics, or data management is required to effectively analyze and validate financial data. Proficient understanding of data manipulation is required. Proficient understanding of data analysis tools and software (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python) is required.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Additional Information:
This internship is for a period of 6 months and is designed to be part-time and remote. The modality can be handled flexibly on request of the successful candidate.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
