- Design and perform magnetic measurements for various applications, including accelerator magnets and magnetic materials;
- Develop and optimize procedures for measuring static and dynamic magnetic fields, particularly for hysteresis compensations;
- Develop predictive models that learn from historical data to make future predictions or classifications.
- System Design and Development:
- Develop and integrate electrical systems for magnetic measurement setups, including sensors and calibration;
- Work on signal conditioning, data acquisition, and processing techniques to improve measurement precision.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze magnetic measurement data, identifying patterns, anomalies, and performance characteristics;
- Provide detailed reports and visualizations to support R&D, production, or testing teams.
- Testing and Validation:
- Implement quality control and assurance processes to ensure the reliability of magnetic measurements;
- Analyze large datasets to extract meaningful insights and patterns for AI applications.
- Hands-on experience with data acquisition systems, including configuration, calibration, and integration with various sensors and instrumentation.
- Skilled in operating related hardware for real-time data collection, signal conditioning, and troubleshooting.
- Proficient in selecting and implementing appropriate data acquisition techniques for specific applications, ensuring accurate and reliable data capture.
- Proficiency in signal processing techniques and tools, including filtering and noise reduction techniques.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and experience with AI frameworks.
- Knowledge of supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning techniques and experience with model training, optimization, and evaluation.
Skills
- Sensors, measurement techniques, and analog and digital signal processing knowledge.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and Python.
- Fluent in English; the ability to work in French would be an advantage.
- You have a professional background in Electronic/Electrical/Computing Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
- a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Job closing date: 17th of February, 2025 at 23:59 CET.
Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
Working hours: 40 hours per week
Job flexibility: Fully Onsite
Job reference: TE-MSC-MMM-2025-9-GRAP
Field of work: Electrical or Electronics Engineering
Benchmark job: 200030 - Electrical Engineer
What we offer
- A monthly stipend ranging between 6287 and 6911 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
- Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse, and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
- Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.

About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
