Desktop support engineer

We are seeking a skilled Desktop Support Engineer/technician to join our dynamic IT support team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service and technical support to end-users, ensuring that all desktop systems function efficiently. This role requires a strong understanding of various operating systems and software applications, as well as the ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues effectively.
Duties
- Provide first-line support for desktop-related issues, including hardware, software, and network connectivity problems.
- Utilise ServiceNow to log incidents and manage service requests efficiently.
- Conduct software troubleshooting for various applications and operating systems, including Linux environments.
- Assist users with IT support queries while maintaining a high level of customer service.
- Configure and install desktop systems, peripherals, and necessary software applications.
- Monitor and maintain firewall settings to ensure network security.
- Communicate effectively with users to understand their issues and provide timely resolutions.
- Collaborate with other IT team members to escalate complex problems when necessary.
- Document solutions and maintain knowledge base articles for future reference.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a help desk or desktop support role.
- Strong knowledge of desktop operating systems (Windows, Linux) and office applications.
- Familiarity with IT support tools such as ServiceNow is advantageous.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users.
- Experience in troubleshooting hardware issues related to desktops and peripherals.
- Understanding of firewall configurations and network protocols is desirable.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
