Applications are welcome from qualified women and men, including those with disabilities.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the overall guidance of the Senior Director of the Services Department (SD/S), and the joint supervision of the Head of the WHO-WMO Climate and Health Joint Office and the Global Heat Health Information Network (GHHIN) Technical Support Unit lead, the associate programme officer will support the coordination and implementation of extreme heat related regional and country project and partnership related activities. The incumbent will perform the following duties:PROJECT AND COORDINATION SUPPORT:Assist in the development, execution, monitoring, and evaluation of assigned activities and initiatives by tracking milestones, deliverables, and project timelines. Assists in identifying potential issues and proposing corrective measures to ensure program efficiency. Liaises with relevant team members, consultants, and external partners to ensure smooth coordination of activities, providing regular updates on project progress and tracking follow-up actions.FACILITATION OF MEETINGS AND WORKSHOPS:Assists in organizing and preparing virtual and in-person meetings, workshops, consultations, including logistical arrangements, agenda preparation, and drafting of relevant materials and minutes. Provides logistical and administrative support in preparation for events, workshops, and conferences, including participant coordination, travel arrangements, and material distribution.KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT AND RESEARCH SUPPORT:Conducts background research, compiles data, and presents information on selected aspects of programs, projects, and other initiatives. This includes analysing project trends, identifying challenges, and synthesizing findings for internal reports. Manages knowledge-sharing and knowledge-brokering activities across agencies by organizing, synthesizing, and publishing materials on designated online platforms, ensuring coherence and consistency of messaging across all project outputs.CONTENT AND REPORT DEVELOPMENT:Contributes to the drafting of various written outputs, including background papers, reports, policy briefs, and technical documents to communicate progress and provide insights on the project's impact. Assists in developing and preparing terms of reference, contract documents, and financial and progress reports to ensure project compliance.VISIBILITY AND COMMUNICATION SUPPORT:Contributes to enhancing the visibility of the GHHIN Technical Support Unit's work by coordinating with relevant communications teams and drafting content for online media. Assists in preparing materials and presentations for meetings with internal and external stakeholders to ensure visibility and impact of the Unit's work.Carries out all other relevant duties as required and or requested by the supervisor related to the role.QUALIFICATIONSEducationMaster's degree or equivalent in environmental studies or a closely related field (Public Health, Medicine, Environmental Science, Meteorology, or applied sciences relevant to climate and health applications, such as data science, physics or engineering). A first level university degree with two (2) additional years of relevant experience will be accepted in lieu of a master's degree.Experience- A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in project management and coordination in public health, disaster management, humanitarian programmes, public policy, climate science, or climate research.- Experience in scientific communication, knowledge brokering, and stakeholder engagement is required.- Experience writing reports, documents and correspondence required.- Project management experience developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating assigned projects is required.- Experience in a local or national government setting, such as the National Health System/Service, or National Meteorological Service would be an advantage.- Experience with United Nations projects or international cooperation would be an advantage.Other requirements- Knowledge of multi-sectoral health and climate issues, and the production and application of climate and related weather, water and environmental information and services in the health sector.- Desirable skills include demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage the work with minimum supervision.- Excellent analytical and communication skills with strong ability to draft clear and succinct communication items, reports, documents and correspondence.- Maturity of judgement, initiative and creativity.- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a range of diverse experts and partners.- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit.LanguagesExcellent knowledge of English (both oral and written).
