Job Description Summary

The Principal Engineer - Packaging is responsible for developing and testing a wide variety of containers used for the protection, display, and handling of products, ensuring that specifications are aligned to requirements and compliant. He will also be in charge of GMP and budget management.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide primary packaging and device development expertise in a broader cross-functional oral drug product development team, from the preparation of the clinical supplies to the transfer of the commercial product at the manufacturing launch site.
  • Support Packaging and Device Project Leaders with the definition of product requirements for packaging, medical devices, delivery systems, e.g. drug/device combination products in which the device is typically already registered, but also sometimes to be developed.
  • Collaborate with internal and external development partners:
    • Deliver work progress according to plan.
    • Monitor, support and challenge technical development as well as test and verification work.
    • Monitor development and implementation of manufacturing processes.
  • Address technical challenges related to oral drugs primary packaging and delivery devices, or associated manufacturing processes.
  • Generate packaging and combination product development documentation according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Design Controls requirements (including risk management, human factors engineering, technology transfer and design history file).
  • Generate innovative ideas within own team and/or project team/functional community.
  • Mentor and inspire others to solve problems.
  • Report technical complaints and special case scenarios related to Novartis products.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical packaging technology development.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Outstanding stakeholder management and excellent communication skills.
