As part of the team, you will develop and refine your electronics skills, collaborating with experts from around the globe on cutting-edge projects that measure and control powerful particle beams. You will join the Department (SY), which is responsible for the beam-related technical systems of the CERN accelerators. The SY teams design, build, and operate equipment systems in all CERN accelerators, and are engaged in ambitious forward-looking R&D programmes.
As an electronics technician, you will:
- Participate in the test and measurement of tunnel and surface-based modules in the various CERN accelerators including the large hadron collider (LHC);
- Design test benches comprising laboratory instrumentation and custom electronics;
- Design and layout printed circuit boards;
- Use advanced instruments such as high-end oscilloscopes, VNAs, and logic analyzers;
- Develop Python scripts for the control of laboratory instruments and test benches.
Qualifications
Higher technical diploma or equivalent relevant experience in the field of electronics or a related field.
Experience:
Required experience with:
- Hands-on experience in soldering of SMD components;
- Hands-on experience with the use of laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies;
- Fault identification in electronic circuits.
Desired experience with:
- Knowledge of CAD software such as Altium or KiCad;
- Knowledge of Python;
- Testing and measurement of analog and digital electronic circuits;
- Design and simulation of analog and digital electronic circuits;
- Layout of electronic circuit boards;
- Design and development of systems based on standardized modules;
- Knowledge and application of instrumentation and measurement techniques;
- Managing self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting;
- Communicating effectively: ensuring that information, procedures, and decisions are appropriately documented;
- Working in teams: working well in groups and readily fitting into a team; participating fully and taking an active role in team activities;
- Demonstrating flexibility: adapting quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and requirements;
- Achieving results: delivering high quality work on time and fulfilling expectations.
Spoken and written English or French: ability to understand and speak the other language in routine situations.
