Head of Pro Helvetia New Delhi (100%)

The Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia employs around 120 staff members in Switzerland and various regions around the world who are dedicated to promoting Swiss arts and culture.

Established in 2007, the New Delhi liaison office of Pro Helvetia is committed to cultural exchange and artistic collaboration between Switzerland and South Asia. The office forges ties with event organisers and nurtures long-term collaborations with relevant partners to support the promotion and dissemination of Swiss arts in the region as well as intercultural exchange.

Your tasks
  • You will strategically develop the liaison office as a unit facilitating relationships and collaboration between the Swiss arts scene and the arts scene in South Asia.
  • You will manage Pro Helvetia's activities in the region, elaborate and monitor the office's annual programme, process applications in all art disciplines (except film) in collaboration with the specialists at our head office in Switzerland as well as ensure accurate reporting on the office's activities.
  • You will maintain and expand the office's existing networks within the arts sector in the region and in Switzerland and cultivate relations with other foreign arts councils, Swiss representations (embassies and consulates) and regional arts and cultural bodies.
  • You will promote, stimulate, and support artistic projects in cooperation with cultural actors and partners from the region, including artists from Switzerland and the region. You will be responsible for the financial administration of such projects.
  • In addition, you will oversee the communication strategy of the office in collaboration with the head office in Switzerland. Furthermore, you will contribute your knowledge of the region and your critical insights to the further development of Pro Helvetia's global activities, in dialogue with your colleagues within the organisation in Switzerland and around the world.
  • You will manage a team of five people.
Your profile

Persons with non-formal education and career changers may also apply for the position. For this multifunctional position, we are looking for a committed personality who meets the following requirements:

  • A university degree or equivalent qualification in an area related to the above tasks, or professional experience in the field
  • Competence in conceptual thinking and willingness to take on responsibility
  • Excellent communication and networking skills
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in cultural project management and administrative work
  • Proven experience in leading an organisation or a complex programme, including expertise in personnel and financial management
  • Thorough network in and knowledge of the contemporary cultural scenes in South Asia and in-depth expertise n at least one artistic discipline covered by Pro Helvetia's activities
  • Familiarity with the international (including European) arts environment and strong intercultural sensitivity
  • Excellent knowledge of English; knowledge of French or German or Italian is not a requirement, but an advantage
  • Experience with the production of cultural events
  • Very good interpersonal skills, intercultural competence and ability to work hands-on
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours (evenings and weekends) and travel for business
