About the team you are joining

The core objective of IATA's Sustainability and Economics division is to provide our airline members with the sustainability and economic analyses, tools, and support that allows them to meet present and future obligations, measure themselves against the overall industry's performance, and enhances their advocacy. Our division aims to be the leading air transport research body, and we have a central role in helping to shape the thinking of the industry. We work with airlines, regulators, and civil society to develop and implement policies, standards, and solutions that support the sustainable development of air transport and mitigate its impact on the environment.
You will report to the Director, Policy and Standards and will have responsibility for providing timely, high quality economic and policy research and analysis – both qualitative and quantitative – in support of IATA's policy and advocacy objectives.

What your day would be like

As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to help identify emerging economic policy and advocacy issues and – in conjunction with the Director and SVP – design and develop robust, evidence-based analysis in response, supporting IATA's policy and advocacy goals and objectives. Your input to policy and advocacy work will help ensure that IATA's contribution to discourse, debate, and policymaking is timely and of high quality.
At IATA, economic policy analysis involves a broad scope of subject matter, including but not limited to sustainability, consumer protection, airline slots, airline and airport pricing and competition, infrastructure, accessibility, and indirect taxation.
You will help to develop and maintain a repository of evidence and resources to support both the regular and ad-hoc analysis required by key stakeholders. Through the application of various economic models, tools and techniques, you will contribute to a body of research that can be used to anticipate advocacy engagements. You will work closely with junior members of the team, mentoring and developing their skills on an ongoing basis.
Your outputs will take various forms including detailed research and modelling, discussion papers, targeted publications, preparation of government submissions, the provision of ad-hoc evidence and data to support an advocacy position, as well as the delivery of sound economic advice to IATA's advocacy teams in Geneva and in the regional offices. You will collaborate with and support the other work streams across the Division as well as stakeholders throughout the wider organisation. You will engage with external stakeholders, including policymakers and government officials, and present your work in various forums.

We would love to hear from you if

Postgraduate studies in economics, business or a related discipline.
At least 5-7 years of practical experience in developing or assessing economic policy and regulation in either a government or commercial environment. You also have experience in scoping and designing economic assessments/projects and leading small, agile economic research teams.
Excellent analytical skills and significant experience as an economist, applying evidence-based economic analysis – both qualitative and quantitative – to practical business and policy issues to inform and influence policy-making processes.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills in English. Other languages are an advantage.
Excellent stakeholder engagement skills., including the ability to communicate complex concepts to a non-technical audience;
Experience in engaging with policymakers and/or regulatory authorities.
An understanding of the air transport industry would be an advantage.
