One of the goals of the High Field Magnet (HFM) Programme at CERN is to explore High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnet technology for accelerator applications that go beyond the limits of low-temperature superconductors such as Nb3Sn. The outcomes of the HTS activities are expected to help push the accelerator magnet technology beyond the 16 T threshold. Using HTS also opens the door to developing more sustainable particle accelerators with higher operating temperatures.
Part of the bottom-up approach to achieving this goal is the comprehensive characterisation of state-of-the-art HTS conductors from suppliers across the globe, a critical step towards incorporating the HTS technologies into functional accelerator magnets.
As a Research Technician in our team, you will have the opportunity to:
– Contribute to the design and construction of testing fixtures to assess the electrical and mechanical properties of HTS conductors;
– Collaborate with scientists to improve existing measurement facilities;
– Engage in HTS sample preparation, ensuring the materials are ready for testing and analysis;

Who we are looking for
Skills and/or knowledge
- Electrical measurements Mechanical design Knowledge of applied superconductivity and/or cryogenic measurements would be an advantage.
- Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical, mechanical engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
