The NZZ is one of the largest private media companies in Switzerland. It focuses on high-quality, independent journalism and represents liberal perspectives. With its products, it offers its readers and users daily orientation and inspiration.
The Data Science Team supports the NZZ in conducting data-driven journalism. As an Analytics Center of Competence, it is our job to provide everyone in our company with the necessary tools and knowledge to make better and more informed decisions and thus contribute to digital transformation. In close cooperation with our product management, marketing and editorial teams, we develop smart data products to support internal and customer-oriented use cases. We are a highly motivated and competent team of data experts (data analysts, data scientists, data engineers) who work with agile development methods and live the principles of an innovation culture by iteratively testing and developing the latest ideas.

Senior Data Scientist (w/m %
Your tasks
- Conception and implementation of new data products based on ML and NLP techniques (e.g. content recommender systems) taking into account risks and trade-offs
- Responsibility and continuous optimization of robust data pipelines in the cloud
- Monitoring, A/B testing and optimizing models in production
- Close coordination with product, marketing and editorial departments to further develop our data products
- Carrying out more complex analyses including preparation and presentation of the results
- Assuming technical and idea leadership in various data science topics
- Look out for interesting tools and algorithms that could help the NZZ
your profile
- Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (computer science, mathematics, statistics, physics, etc.)
- Ideally over 5 years of experience at senior level
- Solid theoretical and practical knowledge in statistics, machine learning and natural language processing
- Practical experience with common data science tools and libraries (e.g. scikit-learn, pandas, Keras)
- Strong programming skills (a must: Python & SQL, a nice-to-have: Scala)
- Practical experience with cloud and big data frameworks (e.g. Apache Spark)
- Passion for AI
- Curious mindset, strong work ethic and very strong collaboration skills
- Very good knowledge of English and good knowledge of German
