Electrical/Electronic Engineer for Silicon Module Development
vor 1 Monat
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Description
Your responsibilities
Silicon Module and Interconnection Development Within the CERN EP strategic R&D program on technologies for future experiments Work Package 1.3 studies the development of highly integrated modules and different interconnection technologies. The development focusses on large area, light-weight modules using monolithic and hybrid silicon pixel detectors with low cost and the possibility of in-house fabrication.
The fellow will contribute to the activity by developing module designs for different prototype chips, testing of prototypes using different interconnection technologies and validating the design in laboratory tests and test beams. Furthermore reliability tests irradiation and mechanical as well as thermal aging tests will be part of the activity and allow to compare different interconnection technologies. These technologies will include anisotropic conductive adhesives in combination with plated and Au stud bonded pads and nanowires. The fellow will work closely with the members of the WP 1.3 team, its external collaborators as well as industrial suppliers.
The foreseen work includes:
- Design and fabrication of a light weight flex including optical transceiver for a monolithic pixel multi chip module
- Assembly of prototype modules using different interconnection technologies
- Test and comparison of the prototype modules before and after irradiation tests
- Design of test structures for interconnection tests in external silicon laboratories (CMi and FCBG), assembly of the structures and mechanical, irradiation and aging studies of different interconnection technologies
- Analysis of test data, documentation and presentation of results
Your profile
Skills and/or knowledge
- Expertise in silicon module assembly
- Expertise in signal readout and analysis
- Expertise in design and fabrication of printed circuit boards
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a professional background in Electrical/Electronics Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
- a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;

About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on
We are on a Quest. A Journey into discovery like no other. Bring your expertise to our unique work and develop your knowledge and skills at pace. Join world-class subject matter experts on unique projects, in a Quest for greater knowledge and deeper understanding.
