JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Description

Join us in a place that can be hotter than the centre of the sun, and colder than the vacuum of space, at the very same time. This is the smartest way to learn more than you can imagine and see your work travel at the speed of light. Almost. This is the fastest way to give your career momentum.

This is your Origin. Where your career begins. Take part

As a member of a team responsible for the vacuum systems of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider, a project that will upgrade the performance of the world's most powerful accelerator, your role will involve participating in acceptance tests of vacuum equipment, including those for the beam collimation systems. These activities will take place within dedicated workshops, laboratories, and the LHC tunnel area. You will collaborate closely with students, trainees, experienced technicians, and engineers in a highly motivating and international environment.

Your primary responsibilities will include the following tasks:

  • Measurement of pressures in the ultra-high-vacuum range. Identify and quantify residual gas in vacuum systems by mass spectrometers, including the detection of organic contaminants;
  • Mechanical assembly of vacuum components and helium leak detection of sub-assembly or fully assembled accelerator vacuum equipment;
  • Generating appropriate documentation for vacuum equipment;
  • Participating in the logistics and overseeing the procurement process for vacuum components;
  • Participating in interventions on vacuum equipment in the LHC tunnel, including mechanical installation, helium leak detection, in-situ heating, and activation of non-evaporable getter coatings.

Who we are looking for

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Knowledge of mechanics and materials;
  • Experience on performing laboratory measurements in the field of materials and vacuum technology;
  • Knowledge of vacuum would be an asset;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Fluent in French, the ability to work in English would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Technological bachelor or similar (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Additional Information

Job closing date: January 19 at 23:59 PM (midnight) CET.

Job reference: TE-VSC-BVO GRAE

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Target start date: 01-April-2024

This position requires:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
