Job Description:

Following the vacuum work package activities for all the LHC experimental area.

In particular, for CMS, ALICE, LHCb and ATLAS the new HL-LHC will induce an important upgrade of the vacuum system.

Working at CERN in the LHC Beam Vacuum Experimental Area Upgrade project, your main activities will include:

  • Modelling and designing complex and highly specialised beam vacuum system.
  • Carrying out conceptual design phase work, leading the development work needed to validate concepts up to the drafting of the conceptual design specifications and reports.
  • Manufacturing, installing, and measuring complex and highly specialised beam vacuum system.
  • Defining the required manufacturing methods, seeking new construction techniques and ways of using new materials/components.
  • Testing and commissioning complex and highly specialised beam vacuum system.
  • Designing test benches and infrastructure required for commissioning.
  • Defining test procedures and plans (acceptance tests, QA, QC, acceptance criteria);
  • Defining maintenance plans (repairs and modifications) and spare parts policies.

Who we are looking for

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Mechanical engineering (or a related field) and have either:

  • Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a
PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.

  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Skills and/or knowledge

  • Experience working with design of vacuum assemblies;
  • Experience working mechanics;
  • Experience working in vacuum domain;
  • Experience working with CAD;
  • You should have a working knowledge of English or French.
