Senior Single Risk & Facility Underwriter ME & Africa (Hybrid - m/f/x/d %)

Then, join our team We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced and ambitious professional to advance her or his underwriting career in facultative property in risk-by-risk underwriting, as well as shaping novel bulk underwriting formats.

About the role

Your job focuses on evaluating, underwriting, and originating facultative property business in EMEA, primarily in the vibrant Middle East and African market, out of Zurich. You will assess a wide range of risk types as well as risk transfer formats with your robust underwriting experience and by utilising state-of-the-art models and analytical tools. You actively nurture broker and client relationships. You will strengthen our team to shape our automatic capacity portfolios and digital platforms in ME, secondly to own and lead our open market portfolio in North/West/East Africa, and thirdly also underwrite single risks in the Middle East. You develop insights from portfolio monitoring and data analytics to steer origination, underwriting and account management actions. You'll own your accounts end-to-end, supported by powerful business servicing and modelling functions.

Within Swiss Re you will collaborate with key account managers, client managers, market underwriters and treaty underwriters in a cross-functional team, for a holistic view on our clients and markets, and to deliver the best of Swiss Re to our clients.

This role offers you lots of space to develop own ideas and advance your commercial and portfolio mindset in a hotspot of economic developments in the Middle East and Africa.

About the Team

As an integral part of Facultative Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), we're a diverse and international team of very experienced underwriters with long-standing relationships into our markets, building on a very high level of single risk engineering, commercial and underwriting expertise. We are a leading franchise in these facultative markets on both single and facilitized risk transfer, including a digital UW platform – very well and broadly networked into the region. To complement our existing skill sets in the team, an individual with experience in portfolio analytics and treaty underwriting will add. The position will be reporting into Head Facultative Property UK&I & MEA.

About You

We are looking for YOU – a persistent, pragmatic and result focused experienced professional who indulges to work independently and takes responsibility for making decisions at a rapid pace. You are an empathetic team player, and curious to learn and adapt to changing markets. Next to nurturing a commercially successful single risk portfolio, you enjoy leveraging technology and data for better underwriting outcomes. You have analytical and structuring capabilities, as well as a passion to advance the state-of-the art of bulk and treaty-like fac-solutions. You enjoy working in an international environment. Moreover, you have:

  • University degree preferably in engineering or science; or equivalent work experience in a quantitatively oriented profession
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in insurance or reinsurance of commercial and industrial property risks
  • Solid understanding of single risk exposure assessment and underwriting
  • Entrepreneurial and solution-oriented spirit, assuming accountability from end-to-end for tangible outcomes, balancing analytical rigor with "can do" pragmatism
  • A track record of and continued hunger to learn and adapt to the aspects of a new role and an ever-changing market, data and tech environment.
  • Other professional experience, in particular in treaty underwriting and/or structuring, but also quantitative analytics, nat cat modelling, risk engineering, or claims handling is highly welcome
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficient in English, advanced in French; any additional language is an asset.
