Job Description
Welcome to the Research Fellowship: Experimental Physics.
The Research Fellowship Programme is aimed at PhD holders in the field of experimental physics with up to 6 years' experience after obtaining their PhD degree and looking to work in a research group.
When selected, you will have the choice to work in a research group of your preferrence. Make sure to share your motivation during the interactive online application process or attach a separate motivation letter to express yourself fully.
Candidates with a PhD, interested in theoretical physics, applied science, or engineering, can also consider applying for specific Research Fellowships respectively in these areas.
Qualifications
In order to qualify for the programme:
- You need to be a national of certain countries, and limited positions are open to Non-Member States applicants.
- You must hold or be close to obtaining a PhD in particle physics or a related discipline which aligns with CERN's experimental facilities. Your PhD should be completed within 6 months after the application deadline. Staff members of CERN are not eligible.
Additional Information
If selected, CERN offers:
- An employment contract for 24 to 36 months.
- A monthly stipend of 6,808 to 7,218 Swiss francs (net of tax).
- Comprehensive health coverage, membership in the CERN Pension Fund.
- Various allowances and grants depending on individual circumstances.
- 2.5 days of paid leave every month.

While applying, you will also have to detail publications, conferences, notes, and experiments you have contributed to.
All applications must be submitted by 2 September 2024 at 23:59 CET to be considered. Results will be announced after the selection committee meeting on 21 November 2024. Selected candidates are expected to start within six months after notification.
