Chief, Radio and Television Section temporary

This temporary position is located in the Geneva Information Service (UNIS) and the incumbent will report to the Director of UNIS and through him/her, to the Department of Global Communications and the United Nations Office at Geneva.
The post entails supervision and management of the Radio and Television Section.Responsibilities:
Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
- Plans, co-ordinates and supervises UNIS's radio, television and photographic coverage including news items, live feeds and webcasts of meetings and events in Geneva, as well as the production of feature stories and programmes for broadcast and publication by the international media.
- Plans, coordinates and supervises UNIS' contribution to UNTV news and feature programmes including UNifeed, 21ST Century and UN in Action.
- Plans, coordinates and supervises UNIS contribution to UN Radio, including production of radio news programmes, interviews and magazines in English and French.
- Coordinates and supervises social media communications projects for the Section, including the production of tailormade audiovisual products specifically for social media and other digital platforms.
- Initiates programme ideas and reviews proposals for coproduction of television feature programmes and films with other United Nations offices, specialized agencies, funds and programmes or with national and international broadcasters and liaises with broadcasters to promote the distribution of United Nations material.
- Administers the Section though assigning staff, facilities and resources among the items of the work programme, while balancing competing demands; preparing production budgets, travel plans and requirements for outside assistance; drawing up internal procedures; monitoring expenditures on capital equipment and production and ascertaining that productions remain within their proposed budgets; developing, formulating and executing the procurement plan for capital equipment for the Section; assisting the Director in preparation of biennium budgets and reports as required.
- Supervises logístical arrangements for visual coverage of major events by liaising with the visual media and arranging and managing access, including the organization of photoopportunities.
- Ensures the provision of efficient and effective television and radio facilities and services for UN producers, accredited correspondents and the information services of specialized agencies, for interviews, productions and transmissions. Collaborates with relevant sections of the Divisions of Administration and Conference Management to harmonize the operations of the technical facilities.
- Deputizes for the Director of the Service in her/his absence.
- Represents the Service at interagency meetings, seminars, etc.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in journalism, communication, international relations, public administration or a related field is required.
A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
