The Investor Impact Lab:
From pro-social preferences to real economic impact". It has been awarded a starting grant by the Swiss National Science foundation in a competitive process. The project finances three Ph.
D.

students in total for 4 years and allows me to build a small and focused team around my research aims.

Two of the three positions are filled, one is still available.

  • The project has three workstreams:
  • Focus on investor preferences for sustainability. The methodological focus is on behavioral finance, employing methods to elicit investor preferences.
  • Focus on ESG ratings and how they can be enhanced. The methodological focus is on econometrics with a substantial machine learning component.
  • Focus on field experiments and quasiexperiments to assess impacts on the real economy. The methodological focus is on program evaluation.
The project accounts for the time needed to complete the mandatory coursework during the first year as well as to develop an individual job market paper in the last year

Your profile:

  • You have a master's degree in finance, economics or a related field with very good grades and want to pursue a PhD in Finance (current master students who will finish their degree before June 30 may also apply.)

Julian Kölbel is Assistant Professor of Sustainable Finance at the Center for Financial Services Innovation at the School of Finance, University of St.

Gallen.

He is also a research affiliate at MIT Sloan (Aggregate Confusion Project) and faculty member of the Swiss Finance Institute.

He has published in a range of journals, including the Review of Financial Studies and the Review of Finance. He is passionate about producing top-level research that solves real world problems.
