Global Internship Program:

About the Team:

The Central Laboratory Services perform laboratory testing to support clinical trials from our pharmaceutical industry clients. The laboratory is composed of multiple departments with specialized technical expertise. This internship is available within the Histology department.

Internship Assignment Summary:

An important element in sample handling is documentation. Much of this documentation exists in paper forms that are filled in by, for example, laboratory technicians or doctors. To rapidly extract the relevant information, we are looking to automate this using python.

Your task will be to design a proof of concept to extract specific data from a standardized form using OCR (optical character recognition) and OMR (Optical mark recognition) techniques.


Education/Qualifications/Skills:

  • Minimum of a BSc in Biological Sciences or any related field
  • Information technologies applied to biology background preferred (master level)
  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and internal/external colleagues
  • Embraces diverse ways of thinking through various forms collaboration and partnership
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory

Experience:

  • Python knowledge
  • Familiar with Jupyter notebook
  • Knowledge of version control (e.g. git)
  • Familiarity with opencv, tesseract or other computer vision libraries is considered a plus
