These positions are located in the English Translation Section, Languages Service, Division of Conference Management, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, Geneva.

The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Chief of the English Translation Section.

Responsibilities:

Within delegated authority, the Revisers will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Makes full use of standard computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and actively contributes to their utilization and development and that of any related IT tools.
  • Carries out linguistic research and provides input to multilingual terminology databases and related reference tools.
  • Participates in the setting of quality standards.
  • Assists the Chief of Section in managerial, administrative, operational, and related activities, as required.
  • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable datadriven planning, decisionmaking, presentation and reporting.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

Having passed the relevant combined United Nations Language Competitive Examination for English Translators/Précis-writers, Editors, Verbatim Reporters and Copy Preparers/Proofreaders/Production Editors or a relevant United Nations language competitive examination held before 2017 is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of experience in translation, précis-writing, editing, self-revision, verbatim-reporting, copy preparing, proofreading or production editing is required.


Out of the aforementioned experience, three (3) years of experience at the United Nations or in a similar international organization is desirable.

Experience in the use of standard computer-assisted-translation (CAT) tools is desirable.

Experience of two (2) years or more in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Experience of self-revision is desirable.
