About the Role

PATH is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Surveillance Lead to join our team in a key role for the USAID-funded Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection System (STRIDES) global project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, coordination, and implementation of surveillance activities in the programmatic workplan, including epidemiological surveillance, laboratory surveillance, and outbreak investigation.
  • Supervise technical staff members to ensure project activities are on track with work plans and technical expertise informs project implementation.
  • Prepare project and donor reports, draft publications, and external communication.
  • Develop and revise best practice documents.
  • Coordinate with diverse groups, including the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, district health staff, international and national development partner organizations, and the USAID mission.
  • Work on complex problems, analyzing information, identifying problems, and recommending solutions.
  • Provide input to senior technical leadership on national guidelines and normative policies.
  • Provide technical direction for the implementation of prevention and control measures for diseases with epidemic and pandemic potential.
  • Support capacity building in host countries and institutions to enhance epidemiological surveillance, alert, and response systems.
  • Manage the production and timely dissemination of high-quality relevant data and information.
Requirements
  • Master's degree or its International Equivalent in epidemiology, public health, or control of infectious diseases from a recognized institution.
  • Project Management (PM) Certification preferred.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in international activities related to epidemiological principles and methods, surveillance systems, epidemiological analysis, training, and research.
  • Experience in surveillance and outbreak investigation and control in developing countries.
  • In-depth knowledge of public health issues and trends, epidemiological theory, principles, and practices, and surveillance techniques, systems, and procedures.
  • Knowledge and practical expertise in the application and monitoring of implementation of International Health Regulations (IHR).
  • Knowledge and skills in supporting cooperation among countries for health development in the areas of epidemiology, surveillance, and response.
  • Ability to analyze information, identify problems, and recommend solutions.
  • Relevant publications, presentations, reports, and manual/tool development.
  • Experience leading business development efforts in the technical area.
  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization.
  • International or Domestic (US) Program Development or Program management preferred.
  • English proficiency required, French, Spanish, or Arabic highly preferred.
  • Willing to travel up to 25%.
