We are looking for a Plant/Piping Design Engineer to join our Plant Engineering team within Process Plants division in Sulzer Chemtech.

As a Plant/Piping Designer you will be involved in projects from the bidding phase to the detailed engineering phase, then interfacing with the workshop in the fabrication phase. You will be responsible for the quality, schedule and manhours on the projects assigned, for the Plant Engineering scope.

The tasks include 3D modelling (plant and piping design), production of all Plant Engineering documents (e.g., 2D and 3D layouts, piping isometrics, piping supports, requisition for the steel structure, piping, fittings, etc.), management of 3D model reviews (internally and with Customers), interfacing with engineering disciplines, Project management and support functions such as procurement.

Your main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Conception of 3D models for Process Plants.
  • Implementation of equipment as well as instruments based on input from other disciplines.
  • Definition of equipment support.
  • Piping design up to isometrics, including secondary steel supports.
  • Specification of manual valves and pipe material based on project specifications.
  • Preparation of material take-offs for piping, manual valves, fittings, piping supports.
  • Preparation of the requisitions for procurement.
  • Quality assurance for the Plant Engineering scope.
  • Design of steel structure specification drawings including gratings drawings.
  • Specification of steel structures according to project specifications.
  • Technical support for the procurement of pipe material and pipe fittings.
  • Interface coordination with Project Management, Process Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering, Procurement, Quality and Plant Assembly (workshop).
  • Project correspondence and verification of plant documentation.
  • Preparation of P&ID upon request (Drafting).

To succeed in this role, you will need:

You have a technical degree or an equivalent education in mechanical engineering and a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in the field of plant and piping engineering and design in an international environment. You are proficient in 3D modelling on intelligent software such as CADWorx. Experience in piping stress calculation is a plus.

English is a must, and good German skills nice to have.

You are organized, have a strong customer focus and great communication skills.

Location : We are based in Allschwil. This is a great growing place and is just next to the nice city of Basel, accessible via bus and tram.
