The Department of Clinical Research (DCR) is a key academic center supporting clinical researchers at the University of Bern and University Hospitals, made up of a Research Unit, the Clinical Trial Unit (CTU), the Clinical Investigation Unit (CIU), and upcoming subunits in 2024: a Medical Data Science Unit and a Gender Medicine Unit. Additionally, DCR will launch a global health unit in the coming years, building on an existing pediatric global health research portfolio. DCR plays a crucial role in providing expertise, innovation, leadership, pedagogy, and facilities for clinical researchers, ensuring seamless support from study design to implementation through collaborations with the Medical Faculty and the University Hospitals.

Senior Project Coordinator, IMCI-PLUS Consortium


Duties and responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive project plan with IMCI-PLUS consortium partners in Europe and Africa, covering project phases from initiation to closure to align with study protocol and goals.
  • Monitor project progress, make necessary adjustments to meet objectives and timelines.
  • Manage project risks, develop contingency plans.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the project sponsor (DCR) and consortium partners, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to ethical standards and good clinical practice (GCP) guidelines during all Sponsor-related tasks.
  • Supervise research assistants and trial staff, coordinating activities across all study locations.
  • Oversee budget and financial activities on behalf of DCR.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive project reports.

Requirements
  • Native level of English, French proficiency is a plus.
  • University degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Allied Health, Medicine, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in research project management, preferably in clinical trials in Africa.
  • Willingness to travel to African trial sites at short notice.
  • In-depth knowledge of clinical research principles, including RCT design and implementation.
  • Familiarity with ethical guidelines, regulatory requirements, and GCP standards for African clinical trials.
  • Proven experience in engaging stakeholders and creating effective communication materials.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills across diverse cultural contexts.
